Been in many good pubs on trip through Derbyshire and Staffordshire, with another hugely enjoyable visit to The Great Western in Wolverhampton which is the perfect place if you have time to kill at the station for a pint of Batham's Bitter and a hot pork bap.

However POTM goes to The Dewdrop Inn (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60972/) , Ilkeston. The name may well be a play on words,as Al10000 noted a previous name, but that aside this pub is worth visiting for the authentic late Victorian interior ,excellent ale and friendly welcome.A pleasure to drink in and worth an extended stay.Thankfully only a short walk from the Erewash Canal.

Since it just missed out being my PotM last month and I had a return visit for its Imperial Russian Stout Festival, the Dial Arch in Woolwich has got to be my contender for this month. Woolwich is woefully short of good pubs and this recent addition to the scene is most welcome. A great clash of new styles in old maritime buildings, a bit quirky and, despite being a Youngs pub, some decent guest beers. A bit pricey but worth a look.

I would have to choose the Star at Vogue in Cornwall. It is a friendly pub doing brill cheap meals, and they get some guest beers in Sadly we haven't done many round here yet, but all that will change. Having a look round Plymouth today.

My pub of the month goes to the Snowshill Inn in the village of Snowshill, this is a lovely cotswold village and the pub is just as nice a single room Donnington tied house,i could have stayed here all day but as usuall more pubs to do.

A tough call between The Sun Inn in Stafford, a great Titanic venue with fantastic beer range, and The Great Western in Wolverhampton which gets the nod on the basis of authenticity and top quality Bathams Bitter.

Tough call, really can't decide between the Bull in Chichester, now a 'real ale and sausages' house, or the Minerva or the Fortescue in Plymouth.

[QUOTE=Old Blue;33221]the Bull in Chichester, now a 'real ale and sausages' house,
That'll be good news for us forthcoming Chichester crawlers.

I'm going to have to vote the Ashton Arms in Oldham as my pub of the month.

It's done nothing extra to be awarded it this month. But it's an absolute life saver when crawling through the good pub desert that is Oldham as I was one Friday last month.

Thanks for being there for me, when I needed you.:D

A pub with good beer in a desert is great. Like a pub with bread rolls instead of al le carte.

The Salopian, Shrewsbury. Serves 5 or 6 good regularly changing brews. Had a great chat with the landlord and a few of the punters last Wednesday. There was a dreadful Spearmint Mild on in there, which I had been flagged (by the barman!) as a disappointment, but as it was heavily discounted I gave it a go anyway. It was as it sounds. Despite that there were some great brews on, including Salopian's Lemon Dream. A slight kick of lemon but also a Belgian yeast kick. Somewhere you just feel at home right away.

Other notable pubs this month were the Port St Beer House in Manchester, which is making changing trains there a bit more tolerable. Also North Bar in Leeds, but I'll save that nomination for in a month or two's time after the American beer fest. The Ship and Castle in Aberystwyth was in great form too, with several exceptional ales on and free pool, which every pub should offer. Well worth the space it takes up. Rather than popping in for a pint as I might have done, it made 6 of us stay for 4 or 5 drinks each.

I haven't been to enough pubs in the past few months, but the pick of the bunch must be the Cricketers Arms in Berwick, East Sussex. It's been on my wishlist since the mid 70's, and we finally made it this year. It is, inevitably, food-led,but not overpriced for an affluent and tourist based national park. As beer lovers, I think that we tend towards the multi ale freehouse-I know that we haven't been in another Harvey's tied house for a long while, but I found the fact that it was a Harvey's pub reassuring. They don't seem to mess their pubs about, and the beer was superlative on both visits. South country beer, in my opinion, is designed for gravity dispense (I was brought up round it...), and the beer here is drawn from a cellar area out back from the bar.As well as the ubiquitous and in this case excellent Sussex Best bitter, I enjoyed 4X old, Armada, Olympia and Knots of May Light MILD.
In front, a well kept and attractive garden, knapped flint, flagstones, open fires. Almost my perfect English pub, lacking only a dedicated drinking area, but sadly I fear that it wouldn't be really viable, given today's pressures. Excellent.

In May I enjoyed my visit to Cheddar, where there was not much to choose between the Kings Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32931/) and the Gardeners Arms (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32929/). Also in Somerset, another Kings Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/33032/), this one in Merriott, was another excellent night out.

In Manchester, my visits to the Marble Arch (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/26061/) and the Castle (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/25799/), enjoyable enough at the time, were given a retrospective flavour of disappointment by the result of the game at the City of Manchester Stadium later that afternoon (we lost on penalties:().

I enjoyed my Bradfield 61/62 bus (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/crawl/viewcrawl.php?crawl=851) pub crawl, the highlight of which may have been winning the quiz at the Nags Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43268/):).

My pub of the month was the unexpectedly delightful Cafe Rene (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60233/) in Gloucester.

Haven't been to cafe Rene for years. It was a Mad O'Rourkes pub when we were last there, and the ceiling and some walls were all winw bottles.

Duly noted - I'll hopefully be going to Gloucester in September!
