Three excellent ales to choose from this week: Oakham Bishops Farewell, Stonehenge Danish Dynamite and BOTW Triple fff Summer is Icumen. A trad IPA which flies down without betraying it's 6% strength until the eyeballs start prematurely revolving.

Had some decent Ales this week but Stone the Crows this was the best one. :D

First pub visit for too long a time, and a handful of classic Sussex beers:
Dark Star Hophead
Harveys Knots of May Light MILD
Harveys Olympia Golden ale
The latter two were consumed at our beloved Cricketers Arms at Berwick in the Bloomsbury Downs. Olympia was new to me, a golden ale with the trademark Harveys tang.An excellent beer, but at 4.3 ABV, perhaps not a regular session ale. The star of the day was Knots of May light MILD, a wonderfully rural mild, fruity with a delicate and refined hop note, and at 3 ABV, a beer I could drink all day, and remain reasonably coherent. It's named in honour of a team of lady morris dancers, incidentally. My BOTW.

Apart from a lovely pint of Dark Star Victorian Ruby Mild in the George on Monday, all my drinking this week took place during an excellent two day session in Huddersfield, either side of the League 1 play-off semi final. So many good beers to choose from:

Ilkley Mary Jane
Durham White Amarillo
Buxton Axe Edge Double IPA
Pictish Simcoe
Mallinsons Danger: Hops!
Ossett Excelsior
Brewdog IPA is Dead Citra
Summer Wine Diablo
Wharfebank Maypole Mild
Roosters Mocha Stout
Northumberland Bucking Fastard
Mikkeller Hoppy Easter
Salopian Shropshire Gold

Some really excellent stuff in that list - the Ilkley was a great session beer, the two keg beers (Brewdog and Mikkeller) were packed with interesting flavours and the Summer Wine Diablo packed an incredible aroma/taste double punch.

But BOTW goes to the Buxton Axe Edge Double IPA - a dangerously drinkable 6.8% fruity, hopped-filled beast, as enjoyed at the Grove - a pub whose virtues I will almost certainly be extolling on the Pub of the Month thread.

Few beers passed my lips last week, but the BOTW goes to Church End's Vicar's Ruin ,a light golden ale well kept in The Crooked Billet,Colney Heath.I doubt somehow that any man of the cloth would be seriously led astray by this beer, but it was OK on a warm day. This week should produce a better BOTW candidate while in Stafford.

the Grove - a pub whose virtues I will almost certainly be extolling on the Pub of the Month thread.

Great place to drown your sorrows;),The Grove was my pub of the year in 2010.I also managed to find one of the best curries ever just down the road, what a great town.

One of the best weeks I've had for a long time. Very few duff brews. Tried this week:

Timothy Taylor - Landlord
Timothy Taylor - Ram Tam.
Jennings - Tom Fool.
Wychwood - Elderwych.
Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold.
Crouch Vale - Blackwater MILD.
Fernandes - Triple OOO.
Jarrow - Venerable Bede.
Brown Cow - White Dragon.
Mallinsons NZ3.
Abbeydale - Absolution.
Bob's - Ostara.
Glentworth - Lightyear.
Brown Cow - Captain Oates.
Fernandes - Malt Shovel MILD.
Phoenix - West Coast IPA.
Fernandes - Smooth English.
Fernandesd - Top Notch.

With honorable mentions to the Lightyear and Captain Oates (a fabulous MILD) the winner this week is Mallinsons NZ3. A fabulous pale beer made with three types of New Zealand hop - Southern Cross, Motueka and NZ Cascade. Another stunner from Tara.

Huddersfield is a great town for beer. Besides The Grove, The Rat & Ratchet, The Star, The Sportsman and Kings Head are all excellent.

Yes, agreed. I managed to drag myself away from the Grove for long enough to visit all of the above, as well as the Head of Steam and the Cherry Tree.
I'm impressed that these pubs, which are all relatively close to each other, can get through enough beer to justify having around 8 ales on in each of them (mostly, I was pleased to see, from local micro brewerys). There must be some serious drinking going on up there - and why not?!

Not that good a week for beer really, especially new ones.

Having said that Adnams Lighthouse was very good in the City Arms in Manchester.

Coach House Gunpowder Mild in the Regal Moon almost won it.

But BOTW is going to be Orkney Corncrake Ale. Light & hoppy and a sensible 4.1% before I went on loads of dark milds.

A bit late to this thread. Had a stag do in Newcastle on Saturday and I only remember one beer of the 18 or so pints we had on the Saturday. That would be my beer of the week then, enjoyed in Bacchus.

Also a bit late - not that much to choose this (last) week - Top of the small pile for me though was Acorn Barnsley Gold at the magnificent Black Friar.
