Cheers!

You will be pleased to learn that the GBG2010 lists a JDW in Victoria, The Willow Walk, 25 Wilton Rd SW1V 1LW Willow Walk (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54697/)

It also lists a Shep' Neame pub, the Cask & Glass 39 Palace St, SW1E 5HN.
Cask & Glass (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22888/)

Ohhh JDW pub! May pop in for swift pint. Cask & Glass look good, I am sucker for historic looking pub especially Victorian style pub..

Ta OB!

The Willow Walk is OK but it's a JDW so it's often packed and difficult to get served.

The Cask & Glass is a Sheps pub and is very small.

There is a decent Fullers Pie and Ale house The Jugged Hare just down the road in Pimlico and if you like American style diners then Biguns Ribs across the road does exactly what it says on the tin.

The Cask Pub and Kitchen is a bit further down the same road.

If you're a traditionalist, the Cask & Glass (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22888/) is probably your best bet (but it does keep odd hours - check beforehand). It's a Shepherd Neame place, if that influences you in any way. The Wetherspoons (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23064/) in the station is by no means the worst in the chain and is also by no means traditional in any way. The Cask Pub & Kitchen (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22988/) is also pretty modern, but is good. Another couple you may be interested in are the Buckingham Arm (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22883/)s & the Adam & Eve (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22867/), close together on Petty France.

There is also the Cardinal, a tucked away Sam Smiths pub with OBB on hand pump.

Looks like Cask & Glass is the best bet..

However do they make lunch in afternoon? I'll check the pub before setting off to London.

Thanks Paul!

Why not pop along to Buckingham palace and enjoy a pint or maybe the house of conmen (commons) for a pint still at 1890 prices as i am told you can also enjoy a cigarette without any problem with your pint, one rule for some ! lots of pubs to choose from, but be careful prices will be very expensive.

:D

Thanks! House of Commons is classed as "Royal Place" hence you are allowed to smoke inside unlike "Public" pubs. Funnily enough Reigning Monarch is not allowed INSIDE House of Commons!

Money is not the issue as I will get paid on the day of trip.. London here we go!!

Sadly.. London Eye is closed on 25th Jan for Maintenance. :moremad:

Not a good area to combine good beer with traditional/original pub architecture but London, as a whole, mostly fails to achieve that. That said, as you are a big fan of jdw, I can only assume that your other claim to be a 'traditionalist' must have been somewhat tongue in cheek?
The Willow Walk gets a bit of a slating (elsewhere) but it's far far better than the jdw above whsmiths in the station, usually has a very good choice of ales and, in my experience, the staff are relatively switched on, so I've never had much trouble getting served. The Cask & Glass is a good little pub serving Sheps in fine fettle, but expensive & a rude manager. The other Cask ('Pub & Kitchen') is a relatively new venture but offers a good choice of beers & the food looks good value for the area. Thanks for the reminder about the Cardinal, Roger, one I need to put on my list.
An alternative Hoppy, if you have time, would be to take tube a coupla stops to Temple & wander up to Edgar Wallace where a festival (t'Ales from the Dark Side) will be running 25-29Jan. Not exclusively dark or winter ales, I'm told; alternatives may be, for instance, from 'Dark'Star...
From there, you're only 5mins from the stunning interior of the Princess Louise, or Ye Olde Mitre, or... oh, I s'pose we'll be into pub crawl territory soon, better stop.

If you are looking to tick off a few more 'Spoons and don't mind a stroll or being ripped off by TFL bus/tube prices, there is also the Lord Moon on the Mall (not bad) near Trafalgar Square, the Moon Under Water (not that great) in Leicester Square, the Montague Pyke (decent enough) in Charing Cross Road and the rather dingy Shakespeares Head just outside Holborn tube.

Come on Roger, you're not advocating a 'spoons tour on a visit to London? Even to a jdw afficianado?
As for tfl, well, yes, single bus/tube journeys are ludicrously priced, but day tkts/travelcards are, I think, reasonable value.

If anyone would do a 'Spoons tour of London it would be Hoppy! As for TFL, anything within an hour's walk is done by foot (weather/time/wife permitting). It helps build up a thirst and you never know what pubs you will find in the back streets.

Thanks for letting us know about that one, I've added it to our listings.

I have visited Moon Under Water but not the others. Thanks for info!

:D I would but I am not Londoner.. I would happily to do Birmingham's version

Actually I have been to The Willow Walk few years ago after Arsenal match.

Sadly I can't go to beer festival as I'll be with my Sister who only drink wine!

I already noted down Ye Olde Mitre as one of possible choices.

Thanks for your info!

So, if we were to decide to meet at Victoria then go to, say, Carpenter's Arms at Marble Arch, you'd work up a thirst walking there, and I'd take the bus and be on thirst quencher number three when you arrived! Really?

True, but I'm sure you more adventurous types would have mapped the worthy ones for me by now...!

Don't think I've been in Shakespeare's Head (Holborn), but have been in the nearby Penderel's Oak which once looked promising for footy with several screens downstairs, but I think they may have knocked that on the head (the Bard's, or otherwise).

Then it would fall under my time permitting exclusion clause. While you were queueing for a bus at Victoria, I would pop into Buck House and get Airmiles Andy to helicopter me to Marble Arch thereby arriving in plenty of time to finish the last drop of Jaipur IPA before you got there.

The Willow Walk Wetherspoon is my work local and, IMO isn’t too bad an option for a quickie pint. Being situated opposite the train and bus stations and also in close proximity to the coach station as well, it can get very busy. However, service is nearly always first class and most importantly of all: the range of ales is excellent – around 10 pumps I think – and the condition is always very good.

The area of Victoria itself is a bit of a pub desert, but St James, Westminster, etc, are all a short walk or tube journey away.

Wow! That's quite a quantum leap - from historic pub lover to jdw's 3rd biggest fan...

Erm, I think they sell a variety of drinks other than ale!

Anyway Hoppy, you should be back in situ by now to let us know how (and where) it all went?

Iam back!!!!!

I know I just love good fashioned English pub especially Victorian/Georgian pubs. I do also like JDW for its wide range of Real Ales and affordable.

Report for London later on..

Watch this space!
