I recall the Swordfish in Newlyn http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/4946/ was outed by Sky in a programme about the worst pubs in the country. This was a couple of weeks before I was staying in Panzance which is walking distance from Newlyn so I had to check it out for myself. Whilst it wasn't the best pub in the world I didn't have any problems there or feel unwelcome. They had a couple of ales which were decent enough and I wondered what all the fuss was about.

I have never been there but I am tempted to treat the Winchester FILO with the same approach and, whilst there is no smoke wthout fire, I suspect that the reviews and comments are a bit blown out of proportion and manufactured by people with a grudge.
