Following on from the ‘stupid pub names’ thread I thought I’d start a ‘stupid place names’ thread (not sure if it has been done before).

Blandford Forum is one I have just spotted.
There’s a place not a million miles from me called Effingham, I always chuckle when I see the sign.

To get on the list I think that the location should have a pub in it to count.

Pratts Bottom in Kent

If we go international, the real schoolboy one is the last filling station before you leave Germany heading West on the E34 - Wankum.

I came across a village in North Yorkshire called Booze (there is sadly no pub there) and just down the road was the village of 498

My mate has just come back from Dorset where he had a beer in Beer.

Did he then have a leak in Piddlehinton? [does have pub (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/9808/)]

In the Orkneys and the Shetlands apparently. No sign of any pub.

I remember stopping for a pint here about 20 years ago on the way to a match at Notts Forest. We saw the town on a road sign and our driver wanted to pull in for a beer.

The gaffer said that people kept on putting Batman stickers on the town signs and a couple had even been stolen - You'll know why when you click the link.

This one satisfies the criteria of both threads:http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/65543/ an old haunt of Ian Fleming's, who was a local lad.The code for the National Express coach from nearby Deal to London is 007.I haven't been to this pub since I was a teenager, but am planning a visit. Bit foody, I'm told.

Not far from Effingham are the villages of Cobham, Fetcham and Bookham. Always sounds to me like the process of arrest by the local constabulary

Mrs W came from Fetcham, that's before she moved to Mickleham-its always stood her in good stead in the Surrey smalltalk stakes.

It's been done before, back in abotu 1989 the road to the police station in Mount Pleasant, FI, was called Letsbe Avenue, much to the annoyance of the gentlemen of the law.
