Well week off work so a rare mid week outing for me and i managed a few pints in the Coach and Horses on a shopping trip to Shrewsbury with the Mrs
Joules - Pale Ale
Stonehouse - Cambrian Gold
Ludlow - Gold
Shires - Redneck
Ironbridge - Citra
Brewdog - Punk IPA
Prospect - Blinding Light
Ironbridge -Steam

The Joules was interesting it reminds me of Bass when it was good (long time ago)
Not that impressed with the Brewdog , not much flavour for a strong beer
Shires Redneck is in the lead at the moment a lovelly deep copper colour and very drinkable, plenty of flavour for a 5.5%

Three great beers on stunning form last night: York Centurion's Ghost, Bob's White Lion and Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild. Definitely the Sarah Hughes so far.

A very quiet week and no further ale opportunities sadly. The week was redeemed though by my BOTW Blue Monkey BG Sips which at 4% is very bitter, pale and full of flavour. Another great pint from the purveyors of wittily named ale and they can brew a bit too.

The weeks drinking ended with a visit to the Horseshoes at Uckington on friday and a couple of decent pints , Salopian Treasure Trove and Purple Moose , Dark Side of the Moose , followed by a Saturday crawl around the dives of Wellington
Ludlow - Best (£3.20 a pint  for a 3.7% kin ripoff) (Captain Webb)
Three Tuns - 1642 (the Park)
Hancocks - HB (£2 a pint , but dont look at anybody ) ( Station)
Bankss - Mild Keg (Three Crowns)
Wye Valley - HPA (Oddfellows)
Blacksheep - Ruddy Ram Porter (Swan)
Weetwood - Cheshire Cat , Sadlers - Thin Ice (Cock Hotel)

Hook Norton's Double Stout for me, a clear winner in a remarkable week filled with formidable opposition.
Dark Horse Porter, Jaipur, Abbot Reserve, Old Thumper, Fortyniner, Directors and Sharpes' Cornish Stout, I ain't been offered a bad pint all week.:drinkup::drinkup::drinkup::drinkup::drin kup::drinkup::drinkup::drinkup::drinkup:

Otter Brewery's Otter Bitter is my BOTW-a good honest session ale-bit of malt, bit of hops, nothing too complicated!New to me-the other beer I enjoyed this week was Jenning's Cocker Hoop, but I felt I could drink more of the Otter!

The Shepherd Neame Amber Ale is "drinking nicely" (as a wine buff might say) in the village club - good value in these parts at £2.50.

I have done 2 beer festivals this week at the Anchor and Wellington in Birmingham, and feel spoiled for choice from the excellent beers I had. New brewery - for me anyway, Red Willow Directionless 4.2% is my choice for BOTW as it was an excellent brew.

I'll go with Brewdog 5am Saint (at White Hart (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubpictures/54129/), nr Liverpool St).
It's the second time I've been surprised by the colour (for Brewdog), and then by the flavour which seems contrary to the appearance, in a similar way to Dark Star's Over the Moon.
Anyway, it was served in perfect condition - so important for the first of a crawl.

I Had so many different Ales this week its very hard too say which one was the best but A few That stand out were The Incubus I had in The Ship on Wednesday & Worthington's White Shield & Double Stout & White Park Moonshine I had on Friday. So I will go for the Worthington's White Shield. :D

A mini crawl of Greenwich on Tues, the Nicholsons crawl on Weds, a surprisingly decent selection in Bishops Stortford on Sat and an afternoon on the river in Putney yesterday so plenty of choice this week. I will opt for the Orkney Raven at the Bricklayers Arms in Putney as it helped numb the pain that I was about to receive at Craven Cottage.

A very good weeks drinking ,with the most enjoyable Nicholsons ale trail,a night at The Falcon and then a post match trip to The Wheatsheaf and Market Porter resulted in a bewildering choice for BOTW.However,I'm with trainman and have to agree that the standout pint for me was BrewDog's 5am Saint,a glorious red ale but with a most distinctive and quaffable taste, consumed in The Falcon.

a surprisingly decent selection in Bishops Stortford .

Never though I would see the day when the words "decent beer" and "Bishops Stortford" were mentioned in the same sentence.I have failed on this task over many years, but glad you managed to find somewhere acceptable,I will read the reviews with interest.

The Green Dragon had five Dark Star beers on all week, including an interesting pint of M&M Porter which slipped down very easily despite being 6.5%. The highlight however was the Dark Star Sussex Extra Stout, which didn't last very long although the barman hinted that they might have it back on again soon. Another worthy BOTW from Dark Star.

One other beer deserving a mention was the Hammerpot Bottle Wreck Porter, which rounded off a fine week for dark beers.

Given what I had prepared myself for I had a surprisingly decent little session whilst doing the rounds. There were certainly no outstandingly classic pubs but the ones I found were at worst average with a many above average and some with quite a lot of potential. The art deco Nags Head was quite impressive albeit on a Sat lunchtime it was a bit too much like a family diner. For the record my visit encompassed the Jolly Brewers (TT, Landlord), Castle (Toad, Tadpole), Cock (Adnams, Explorer), Nags Head (McMullens, Chancellers Revenge), Red Cow (Buntingford, Twitchell), Star (Brentwood, Gold), Bricklayers (Saffron, IPA), Half Moon (B&T, Dragon Slayer) & Rose & Crown (H&H Olde Trip). I don't think that's too bad for a town of supposedly poor pubs and not even a Wetherspoons to fall back on. The only poor quality ale was the Tadpole in the Castle - everything else I had no real problems with. I would be quite happy if my hometown offered a similar selection.

Oh, and we won the match as well so that made everything look a bit better!

A very quiet week overall, but I'm more than happy to have Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild as BOTW.
