Thought I would have a look at how many people joing Pubs Galore by month since it started.

There is a lot of history there, and it is interesting to look at it from my perspective, if you have any questions about the pattern, just ask and Dave may try and explain it

Just looking at that, looks like we get roughly 4 new approved members a day, we don't however get 4 new contributors every day. This rather supports Ed's (and nogoodboyo's) observation that something is wrong (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?t=535).

Personally I am not convinced it is to do with the Home Page, but would certainly welcome all suggestions.

Any easy breakdown of how many new joiners become more than one shot contributors?

My assumption, from other posts, is a lot are join, slag off, then goodbye :(

Is this a fair assumption?

or, to praise up their pub!

and what constitutes an active user?

Ok,

I can't think of an easy way to do that stat, so I may come back to it at some point, but to give you a broad answer.

Of 9491 members we currently have on the site, 2922 have left reviews, 865 have left more than 1 review and a miserly 142 have left more than 10 reviews.

The 1 drop reviewers are normally either axe grinders or pub landlords, you just hear a lot about the axe grinders as they are one of my gripes :o.

Soup Dragon, if you are talking about the active members shown on the front of the forum, that is members of the forum who have posted on the forum, those stats are very misleading due to the way I have integrated the forum with Pubs Galore.

And of course we have a new category of contributor, those who join so they can promote their ability at arranging twigs (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?t=553) on our forums ;).

Can we have a couple more smilies please - one laughing, one crying and one F****** angry - also one with a twig up his ar** as well!

I am, unashamedly, a traditional pub hound. Seeing interiors like those, instantly makes me feel like a few cocktails.....Molotov cocktails.

As soon as I realise I have walked into a glitzy, low leather seating and chrome bar stools sort of place I wonder how long it will be before I am offered services which have nothing to do with beer.
Never happens to me in 'Spoons which would probably more affordable.

Back to Stats...late 06 & early 07 was a bit of a disaster. What was that due to ? Sunspots or the Great Beer and Lager Drought ?

Sorry about my slow reply to this!

That is a good spot, the raw stats we have here do make it look like a bit of a disaster but that doesn't quite tell the whole story.

In August 2006 we launched a totally redesigned version of the site. The old version was in a word rubbish (I think I'm allowed to say that since it was largely my fault!) :muppet:

One of the things I did with the old version was to place a big link slap bang in the middle of every single page telling people to register on the site - I think perhaps many of the people signing up at that point were expecting to find there would be more information available once they did, which there wasn't, so most of them never contributed and probably never came back!

Once we launched the new version we were a lot more subtle about telling people to sign up, as in only when they actually wanted to interact with it. So at that point fewer people were doing so but at least they understood why they were doing it and more of them went on to contribute in some way.

So oddly enough while that period doesn't look good it marked the start of us getting quality over quantity when it comes to new members and was when the site really started to come to life.

Well if there is anything we can do to make it easier or motivate you more, let us know!

Anything we can do to make the site more enjoyable and easy to use is excellent feedback. :glass:

Wetherspoon Gift Vouchers would be cheaper on postage, fit the letter box aperture and not make so much of a mess in the event of a heavy landing.:)

Conrad
11-11-2009, 11:49
Would also force people to go out to the pub to use them, now all we need to do is convince Wetherspoons that they wan't to sponsor us.

I don't have a 'local' Weatherspoons! Can you send me some Kilvert's Vouchers instead please?

Only if it gets a proper name like Bernard de Neufmarche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_de_Neufmarch%C3%A9) in line with the other wonderfully named Wetherspoon pubs :p

my local spoons is the Thomas Bottfield , named after a famous localman who no one around here has ever heard of . Oh and its rubbish .
