I thought we should have one of these for the Six Nations rugby competition starting on 4th Feb. Only a short competition, 5 rounds over about six weeks and the scoring is the same as for the other rugby games, i.e. you predict the winner and the margin of victory.

Invitations will have been sent to everyone in the Premier League pool but it's open to all PG Forum users, go to the Sportguru website (http://www.sportguru.co.uk/sixnations/) click on 'Pools' then 'join a pool' and enter the code BURGYALE.

I've even managed to upload a PG logo which will hopefully appear on our Pool page. Hope I haven't broken any copyright issues by doing so Conrad.

I'm in - I'll try and guess my way through the 6 weeks, much like I am in the cricket!

Cheers Strongers, application accepted. I seem to be getting most of the cricket ones wrong recently.

It's understandable Alan, some of us have been using the site for a while so are used to how it works. Things are further confused by the fact that SportGuru seem to change the layout of the pages for each new competition, as they have with this one. However I'll try to give you, and anyone else who needs it, a step-by-step guide.

First thing you need to do is to go to this link http://www.sportguru.co.uk/sixnations/

If you've not used the site before you'll need to register. You need to choose a username, I use CliveJ but many on here use their PG forum name so it's easy to identify each other. You'll need to provide an e-mail address and choose a password, you'll need these to log in each time you visit.

After registering make sure you are on the RBS Six Nations page then click on 'Pools' on the menu that runs along the top.

This should give a drop down menu and you should select 'Join a Pool'.

You should then see a 'Find a Pool' box in which you should type BURGYALE. If this doesn't work try CliveJ or Pubs Galore.

You should then see the PG icon and our Pool and there will be a button you can use to apply to join the pool (there may be two successive pages on which you need to do this)

If all that works you'll get a message on screen telling you that your application for the Pool has been sent.

I then get an e-mail and accept your application.

Hope you decide to have another go.

Cheers

OK, I expect I know what has happened. When you first join you are put into a random pool with other players. This will probably be called something like Autopool XXX.

What you now need to do is log back in and go to the 'Pools' tab from the menu along the top and select 'Join a Pool' from the drop down menu. Then follow the instructions in my earlier post.

Good Luck

Hi Millay,

I have done what you said and entered all three names and none of these seem to work it always says 0 pools found with each name i have used.

I think i will now give up trying to do this,i am a technophobe and i am doing something wrong but i dont know what.

Thanks for your help :moremad: Alan.

Giving us some free advertising? No issues broken with me.

Whilst I really like what sportguru do, I do find their site a nightmare to work around (somewhat hypocritical given PG is mostly my fault).

I've managed to join, even though I know nothing about rugby. :o

I could only join via the invitation I received through email though.

When I went into SportGuru to sign up it couldn't find the PuG pool even though I searched by name, captain, code and alphabetical.

I think there's something wrong somewhere. :(

Yes I agree, something is not quite right. I couldn't find it except through the invite either.

For anyone having trouble and wants to join though, try clicking this direct link to the Six Nations PuG Pool:-
http://www.sportguru.co.uk/sixnations/pool.asp?p=10006845
I think you should be able to join from that point.

Despite the obvious problems there are 8 of us managed to join and all have been accepted. Any others welcome, best way is probably to follow Dave's link.

I'm in. I can't do a lot worse than my performance in the cricket one, though my disastrous predictions have hardly been helped by constant confusion over start times, and regularly forgetting to enter any predictions at all. :o

I've just registered. I would have joined sooner, but it seemed a lot of hassle. Dave's link made it very easy, so my thanks also.

Can't wait for the 4th.

Both accepted, now we are 10.

NB - for those playing the Premier League football prediction game be aware that there are games being played tonight and tomorrow.

The misses has stuck her name down. This is more her sport than football so it will be a bit more of a level playing field in Collins Towers!

Today I received this email from James Hutchinson who is admin at Sportguru.

Hi Steve,

Just been doing a quick check on forums to see what people are saying about the site - I spotted a few comments about navigation and useability. We'll always listen to feedback, so feel free to let people know they can drop me a line any time.

It looks like there is a specific problem with the Pubs Galore pool, which wasn't showing in search. I've changed the setting, and it is now, which should make it easier for people to join.

If you could let people know, that would be brilliant.

Many thanks,
Hutch

For anyone interested, there is a contact link on their website and any queries will be quickly addressed

Fair play, decent customer service is a rarity to the point where I assume the worst now. So well done to Sportguru.

I was having problems with the link but now OK. I have signed up but can't make my picks until I'm accepted. Hopefully I can carry my Paul the Octopus streak forward from the Heineken Cup competition despite knowing diddly squat about what I'm doing!

Great start for England, that opening game was always going to be a tricky one. Now three home games I think including the French. Italy up next though.

I'd just like to make it clear that I really don't follow rugby at all, so my predictions were total guesswork. So it does amuse me to see that I'm currently 43rd out of 6842 overall.

France to beat the Scots by just 8 points would be most welcome.

Hi Dave,

Where do you look to find out where your overall ranking is.

Hi Dave,

Towards the top left of the screen there is a box headed with your username.

Beneath that is a big percentage saying how many of the games you've called correctly. Then below that it says what your global (overall), national and pool rankings.

Looks like I didn't quite get the France result that I wanted, very close though!

Up to 43rd now, keep it up everyone, we're playing for the honour of PG as well now.

Given that you are probably going to win the PG Cricket competition (although Australia look like winning this last game), is that another sport that you are just 'lucky' at Dave?

France to win by 13 was fine, 14 would have been better.

I don't follow rugby either and I'm second in our pool

Can I just say I'm currently the strongest person in our pool...

But tha't just because I played the tactical card of a welsh victory, on the basis that if the buggers had done us I would have got the brucey bonus of SportsGuru leg up, and as England pulled it of I could console my poor pool start by basking in the warmth of doing the Taff's in Cardiff.. Always a good feeling..

Anyway no need to play that game in the next round.
Got enough trouble with the Scotland v Wales game , which is a tough one to call..

Isn't it just. I was a little too optimistic about Scotland containing the scoreline in Paris, but with them being at home I think they'll shade it against Wales.

I do at least follow cricket so I wont claim that as pure luck. Although it was my pessimism that really helped - I pretty much backed the Aussies to win most of the games which worked very well in the one day series.

Congratulations to Evil Gazebo who won the Pubs Galore Six Nations pool by just 0.25 of a point from Dave. This was despite not getting a sigle yellow cap as a top round scorer, Dave got two and Hondo also got two, although finished down in 5th place. The other yellow cap went to Gann.

In fact congratulations on a good team performance to everyone as our pool came 12th overall out of a total of 534 pools. Let's see what we can do in the F1 comp. Also make sure you make your semi-final and final picks in the Cricket World cup as we are currently sitting 7th of 138.
