The Seven Stars is listed on Lower Bristol Road in Bath. This is in the suburb or absorbed village of Twerton. I did a short tour there before the recent Luton Town game at Bath City and did not see a pub called the Seven Stars. I have done a quick Google search and found this: http://www.jamesabaker.co.uk/contact.htm, which is coincidentally the website of a property consultant with a fine line in pubs for sale. Their offices are in Seven Stars House, Lower Bristol Road.

In the absence of evidence for a pub called the Seven Stars at this location, I suggest the entry be deleted.

While still in Twerton, I have added a review to the Sportsman, which as far as I can make out was the name of the bar of the football club and is now called Charlies. Unfortunately I didn't get a photo because I didn't cotton onto this until I got back after the game. Don't say "there's always next season". :p

Can you please change the name of The Sportsman to Charlies Bar, unless you think it isn't really a pub. I presume it's only open on match days, though that's just a guess, but there's no restriction on entry (we Hatters were made very welcome) so it's obviously not a club as such, and on that basis I'd be in favour of retaining it.

Cheers

Hi sheffield hatter,

I think I am going to have to disagree with your excellent research on Seven Stars. Although it does look to me like it is now closed and converted into a solicitors (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ba2+1es&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=18.98626,39.506836&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Bath,+Avon+BA2+1ES,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.380559,-2.388108&spn=0.000614,0.001206&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=51.380559,-2.388108&panoid=aMgCGb2Wkf1Ijna1bDImxw&cbp=12,332.89,,0,-4.01).

We corrected the name of Charlies Bar (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/157/). I sadly reserve the right to say there is always next season as I have a soft spot for Bath and they were favourites to go down at the start of the season ;) (not what you meant I know).

Thanks for those.

Nice one, Conrad. I must admit I wasn't looking for the Seven Stars when I was in Twerton because its map point was hidden under the Golden Fleece, so I walked right past it on the way to the ground. It's even still got the Ushers plaque by the door. Looks like I'll have to go back next season after all.

Conrad,

Just a thought: when a review is posted and the name of the pub changes, the pub's name on the review remains as it was. So my review of Charlies Bar (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/157/) says it's a review of the Sportsman. Obviously if the review is an old one, that would be correct. But as I notified you of the change of name at the same time as posting the review, would it be possible to change the name on the review as well?

The same thing happened with my review of the Crown Inn (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/6314/), Pooley Bridge near Penrith, Cumbria, which was (I think mistakenly) listed as Brewers Fayre and corrected at my request. If this is something you've not previously considered and it would take a lot of work to correct it, please don't bother about it - it's a very minor niggle.

Cheers

Another one of those that is prohibitively awkward I am afraid. You can solve this one though - edit the review and make a tiny change to it (a space should work) and the review will indicate that it is of the new name instead.

OK, thanks for the tip. I've changed those two. Of course the date of the review also changes, so this solution would not be so suitable if there were subsequent reviews. But I guess you'll cross that bridge when you come to it (assuming it seems desirable to get to the other side, of course :)).

Also, for future reviews where a name change is involved, I'll make a point of waiting until the change has been effected before posting the review.

The other thing to note is that the line you mention is just a hack anyway, it is until we can do the more complete fix (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?1165-Pub-name-changes&p=7525) in the future.

That line was easy enough to add and gave a small hint in some cases, there are a number of them that are wrong in the system for various reasons, it is just that it is slightly better than how it was before.
