This is a breakdown of the Counties in our system and what content they have.

It is a little bit of fun and I don't think too much can be read into any of it (although you may wan't to plan your holidays to add to our reviews ;)).

Let me know if there is any information you would like to see.

Just did Chester, reports going on, though have a full day in Walsall today. Got Isle of Wight planned for next Apr - York for May, though, so will be up there then. Thinking of a day out by train to Sheffield, last time i did places there was pre-reporting days. Also looking at Derby and Nottingham by choo choo.

The only footy grounds i have left to do in Yorks are Huddersfield's new ground and Bradford. So not much there, as far as i know

Excluding Whitby, Scarboro and York, and i know its a big area, but what places would you advise for day trips, A&H? especially ones that can be done on following days?

Interesting, judging by the pictures and reviews West Yorkshire is probably fairly well corrected as well. I suspect our Western Isles, Scotland listings may not be quite current ;).

Looking through the Shropshire listings there are quite a lot of pubs missing , will have to pull my finger out and start suggesting .

I'm planning both in the near future, Derby possibly on a weekday 13th -18th November, her indoors permitting, send me a PM if you fancy joining me.

Huddersfield is a fine drinking town, two pubs on Platform 1 at the station alone then the Grove, the Rat and Ratchet, the Star and that's just the cream! Sadly all are the other end of town to the stadium if IRCC. The less said about Bradford the better.

Leeds is good drinking territory especially Holbeck just south of the station and I'm sure A&H will sing the praises of the West Riding's capital city - Wakefield. I must put my W. Yorks reviews up soon.

Thank you Conrad for the work on the Stats. It is going to take missionary zeal to cover HerefordshireI know its not as big as some counties but its plenty big enough for me. Another photo submitted today. I heard the Wheatsheaf at Whitbourne is due to reopen and the new landlord hopes to have a good few ales. I wish him the best.

I would have very high hopes for the Wheatsheaf.

The new landlord is Steve who runs the Seven Stars in Bristol. It is a very well respected real ale pub and is the 2009 Bristol Branch runner up for Pub of the Year (http://www.camrabristol.org.uk/poty.html).

The Wheatsheaf looks like it might be a very different challenge, I wonder if it is possible to get a similar throughput of ales in a country pub compared to a city centre location?

Will you be going across from Pompey or using the Scummers port in Southampton?

Just thinking if Pompey & time permitting fancy a pint in one of the Portsmouth pubs near the Ferry? I can sus them out for wheelchair access in advance :glass:

Sorry about the delay in chipping in, but I've been away for a week, sampling the delights of Swaledale. SD I'd agree with OB that Huddersfield is a fantastic town for drinking. Leeds has some good pubs, but is not outstanding in the way that Huddersfield and Sheffield are. Having said that there are more than enough for a good day out.
Wakefield has about half a dozen or so good to excellent venues, unfortunately most don't open until 4-5 o'clock.
Another possibility is doing the 'rail ale trail', taking in such delights as The West Riding Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury Station and the Buffet Bar at Stalybridge station.
Rail travel in West Yorkshire is actually pretty good and you can get an off peak train and bus Day Rider for £6.20. It may be easier to plan your sorties by venue rather than towns.

That one didn't come up in my searches, but on reading some newish reviews elsewhere it may have dropped off a little in choice and possibly quality. If you think it's ok I might drop in. The must visit list, bearing mind it's my first drinking visit to Derby, looks like this:-

Alexandra
Brunswick
Flowerpot
Olde Dolphin
Old Silk Mill
Station Inn

and if there's time, money, and/or capacity maybe these

Babbington
Brewery Tap
Smithfield
(Wardwick Tavern)

whoops a bit of thread drift here :o

Having lived in Derby for 3 years.

Beware of Old Silk Mill's erratic opening hours.

Olde Dolphin is oldest pub in Derby and mind your head on way in :)

Avoid Station Inn at any costs. Had unpleasant experience with landlord and poor quality of ales.

Flowerpot is quite hard to find as it is hidden away from City Centre. Cracking pub with over 10 ales on sale including one 10% proof ale!

You are forgetting The Standing Order famed for huge room and high celling. You will see what I mean when you set inside the pub..

EDIT: Forget to add this pub http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7010/ which is stones away from Flowerpot. Worth have a look in.

So Oldboots,

Did you go to Derby?

Indeed we did and a good time was had by all. We covered the cream of the crop and will need more visits to do some more, we were limited by train times more than anything.

I'm finishing the reviews and I guess Soup Dragon, who led me astray ;), is doing the same.
