Just bringing this across from the That Doesn't Go There Forum:

Here's a thought - how about a Google StreetView (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.491164,-0.137672&spn=0,359.978027&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.491092,-0.137591&panoid=ojXp2TZtcNWOHFIRjY9zlw&cbp=12,78.68,,0,-9.24) link (where available)? Or is it possible to enable StreetView on your own maps?

If we are working out if StreetView is possible then we may as well just show our own streetview map as it is probably a similar difficulty. I am not sure if it is possible to enable StreetView on our own maps (I will check that), but when StreetView came out I spent a couple of hours trying out the technology, and we can get it into the site at some point.

If you fancy a play have a look here (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/test-streetview.php). If you want to have a look at a pub you know have a look for it on our system and make a note of the number in the url, so the one you are looking at initially in the demo is the Hatchet (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/411/). If you look at the web page url it is http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/411/, the number at the end is the important bit (411). So if there is a pub you want to try out, note down that number and put it in the box under the street view, then click on the button next to it.

StreetView is still in an early phase, so very few of the pubs will actually show on it, and some of them may be quite amusing, when I was playing I stumbled across The Bristol Flyer (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/276/). Which in StreetView (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/test-streetview.php?pubid=276) is a little mad, it has actually gone up a side street next to the pub and caught the graphiti on the side of the pub, if you go 2 clicks to the right it will make a lot more sense.

Anyway, it is certainly on the cards for when I rewrite the maps, and like the maps it is going to need a correct the view so that all the views look as good as the Hatchet example.

Thats brilliant idea! However.. it will take years to get all pubs on streetview by yourself. It would be great idea if regulars here could help and make things much easier for you.

Keep us posted! ;)

Yeah I have been umm'ing and arr'ing over this as I would love to throw it into the system, but the reviews really are more important :(

Hopefully soon though, and we will as ever be hassling members to correct the streetviews.

Would it be possible to hyperlink the pub's own pictures to the relevant Streetview hotspot?

The ones shown on StreetView when viewing it on Google are through Panoramio, and need to be geotagged which requires quite a modern camera or phone. I'll keep an eye out to see if we can offer ours up.

Alternatively if you mean can one click on our picture and go to the correct location in streetview probably not, for similar reasons, there is no real way of matching it. Also I think clicking on a picture should take you to the picture so you can view larger copies.

I may put a link off the maps page if I get time at some point as we can check from there if the streetview is available for that point. Really though I would like to bring the information to our site so that it is better promotion for us.

Geotagging !, Hyperlinking !Lawdy drinking is getting complicated. I remember when all you needed was a packet of fags , a labrador and a believable tale to tell the mrs why it was imperative you went to the pub.
In street view the car is missing off the drive so I am checking all the pub car parks to see where it went to.

Excuse me, old son, while I have a little grin:):)and a pint:drinkup:

On a another tack, I won't be around much over the next couple of weeks. I don't mean I no longer love you and have left you, simply that life's a bit complicated at the moment. Not sinister, just complicated. Now, where did I put me glass:drinkup::drinkup:

If we are working out if StreetView is possible

FWIW Streetview became active in my neck of the woods over the last few days - the picture of my house is over a year out of date.
