Hi all,
We're throwing a party for a couple of friends who moved from Devon to Australia and these two pubs are their favourite.
We're trying to find out what their favourite beer might have been and where we can get it from.
Can anyone tell me what beers they have on tap at these pubs and what the favourite beer might be at each???
I don't think it's going to be easy getting stock in Australia though!
Thanks heaps.

I'm assuming you are in Oz?

The nice people who post on this forum are very resourceful. There isn't much current info on Pubs Galore on these two pubs but you could try phoning to find out what they sell (although John McGraw's comment about 5 real ales might only complicate things for you):

Ye Olde Jolly Sailor http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/8864/ 01626 772 864
The Ship Inn http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60824/ 01626 772 674

Were your friends regulars in these pubs and would the landlord have known their names? I would guess your friends drink real ale as opposed to the keg bitter and lager that just about every pub sells?

I once sent a mate a case of a well known British brand of lager when he lived in Australia because he was missing his home comforts. I tried a few courier companies and they quoted me a fortune (because of the weight) but I was lucky enough that an uncle of another mate was in that line of business and helped us out. You might be lucky if you are able to find these ales on a website because I doubt they'd be in your local bottlo.

It's commendable thought from one mate to another so best of luck with your efforts.

What the heck! I rang them myself.

The Ye Old Jolly Sailor is currently selling Sharp's Doom Bar, Bass and Red Rock Darkness.

The Ship Inn is currently selling Young's Winter Warmer, Fuller's Jack Frost, St Austell Cornish Tribute, Fuller's London Pride and Wells Bombardier.

Fuller's and Youngs are London based breweries, Charles Wells is based in Bedford and Bass was swallowed up by Coors so their ales are available all over the country.

Sharp's, St Austell and Red Rock ales are especdially popular in the West Country - Devon and Cornwall - so I would guess that for the beers you are looking for (most likely the Doom Bar or Tribute - they are available bottled and sold online) you would to have to contact these brewers:

Well it was a challenge and I didn't want to be beaten. I hope our cricketeers can respond in the same fashion :)
