Sharp's Abbey Christmas proved a fine accompaniment to the work festive lunch yesterday (at one of those Geronimo Inns that Youngs have just bought - certainly the best food we have had at such an event in recent memory, and not actually that expensive).

A decent start to the weekend (the promised stronger beers are being held back for xmas/new year)

Ossett - Nervous Turkey
Salamander - Plum Bum
Okells - St Nick
Saltaire - White Christmas
Mallinsons - Comet

all pretty good but the Plum Bum is in pole at the moment

No further ale opportunities for the week unfortunately so my BOTW is Saltaire's Triple Chocoholic, another top quality winter warmer and extremely popular at The Coal Hole on The Strand.

Blimey, Oggy. Are you sure you're not in West Yorkshire? :D

Had a good week by my (financially) restrained standards these days:

Nethergate - IPA.
Mauldon - Black Adder
Riverhead - Galena IPA.
Brew Co - Bock.
Great Heck - Yorkshire Export.
Dr Morton's - Eurocrat.
Bob's - White Lion.
Northumberland - Rudolph's Balls.
Ossett - Nervous Turkey.
Sharps - Cornish Stout
Thornbridge - Wild Holly
Elland - Stocking Top
Elland- Diablo Chocolate Porter.

Thoroughly enjoyed some well kept Black Adder and the Cornish Stout, but the Diablo's probably the winner. (Unless by some miracle I can squeeze in a couple tomorrow).

Well, snow's put paid to any further jaunts this week,so my BOTW is, as I'd thought it would be, Incubus from Hopdaemon, a dark chestnut beer at about 4% ABV.Malty, with a good resiny hop base from the Kent grown Cascades (dificult to grow in the UK) and I think Goldings. A more unusual challenger to its neighbour-Late Red.
On the bottle front, I enjoyed Hengist from Wantsum,a good crisp pale ale.

Because it was the right beer at the right time and went down so well, my BOTW has to be the Green Jack Baltic Trader 10.5% at Sheffield Tap yesterday.

The pre Xmas p1ssup in Sheffield was great yesterday, and we had a great time wandering round to the Harlequin, Gardeners Rest, Hilsborough Hotel, Fat Cat, Kelham Island Tavern and Sheffield Tap. Lots of familiar faces round the pubs and a grand atmosphere. Made easy as there was no snow there so pavements were easy to walk round.

BOTW just has to go to Dark Star Porter in The Old Cross Tavern and a fitting way to end a pub crawl around Hertford.( Not counting the bottle of Cobra in the curry house.)

Artic conditions hopefully wont disrupt this week's boozing ,client drinks in Harpenden then a serious session in The Cask and Kitchen which will be a first visit for me.

No t'internet at home ,so silence from me later this week until early January.Season's greetings to you all, happy drinking.:drinkup::drinkup:

Slightly strange week last week. Lots of Xmas beers around all with cinnamon/coriander etc added which aren't always to my taste.

Acorn Stingo was pretty good as was Big Nevs Glittery Balls from Six Bells.

Winner this week though is Acorn Old Moor Porter, once again in fine form at the Regal Moon.

I can't seem to find much beyone Xmas beers at the moment and whilst they have all been fine, none have particularly stood out apart from Harviestoun Old King Legless which partly managed to do what it says on the clip after several pints at the Ivy Leaf in Dartford.
