I see the Shakespeare in Brum City Centre has now been taken over by Nicholsons. This was one of the few Brum pubs I had been in prior to our recent gathering and it was an OK place without being anything special. Nicholsons have a good track record of improving fairly ordinary pubs. Not sure if Soupy's review is before or after Nicholsons took over but seems to be a place on the up and worthy of future Brum crawls.

My review was before. I passed it a couple of nights ago, but it wasn't yet open and it seems to look tidy from both the outside and the in. It had a good bank of handpulls aka handpumps! I think it opens this, or next week - i dare say i will be in it by xmas

You, Andy, are addicted - 8 pints and back to work eh?

Mmm, let me know and I could join you next Thursday or Saturday. Not Friday 'cause I promised the missus a lift. Well, she does pick me up when I'm a-vomitting...

I'm very good if I've got to go back to work and then drive home. A pint (and a coke) is my limit, and with a two hour gap before I get in the car. I'd have to come in on public transport :moremad: if I intended to drink more than that.

I'm only usually in Birmingham during the week so I could do next Thursday.

I called in yesterday for a swift pint. It's not that different from before but it has had a general tidy up and a lick of paint. I have always liked the pub anyway. It was busy and there was a decent choice for all you "real alers" ! There were 5 people serving and it's not the biggest bar. They were getting in each others way which was quite amusing !

I think Danny, a good local reviewer, has already been and reviewed.

Looks like the Cross Keys in York is next in line for the Nicholson's treatment...

They needed to do something with it because it's a mess at the moment.

Pub which started thread was our last call before train back from recent Black Country tour - pretty well the nearest you'll find to New St station if exiting in the correct direction. This way, too, for the Wellington, as opposed to the circuitous route I somehow managed on PG meet-up.
'Fraid I don't recall anything about Shakespeare.
