It's nearly an anagram of the likely truth. One Becks in Birmingham. :p

Very likely. :D Whatever you do don't mention the large funnel and a yard of rubber tubing to 'C'.

I was going to comment that I'm not sure I would drink a pint of anything called Birmingham Beckons, but I see I was a little too slow.

After reading those replies I can see that I need to watch out for some enamas enemies in Birmingham.

Had an excellent (well, several of) King Goblin in the new-ish Wetherspoon's in Chippenham over the weekend - the Bridge House. Fairly similar to its derivative, but of course with an added punch at 6%. I'd give it a solid 8/10. very disappointed to wander in on Sunday and find it gone. Young's Ram Rod (7/10) was a good replacement.

Lees' Chocoholic in Birmingham Lloyd's No1 on Broad Street (I'll have to look up its proper name), a weak 3.6% to pair chocolate with but it seemed to go quite well. A solid brew but couldn't islodge King Goblin. 7/10.

Traditional Scottish Ales brew the Double Espresso (4.8%) which I had at the next Wetherspoons on route to New Street (I'll never be a good reviewer if I don't note pub names!). I've had this once in the Cuthbert Brodrick in Leeds and enjoyed it, it was just as good here. 7/10. One is enough.

Mordue Brewery Coriander (4.8%) was also attempted but despite being a lover or coriander in most food, this just did not work. I could tell the attempt was at coriander but there were other flavours complicating things and it just didn't work. 4/10

Some other beers tried this weekend were an appalling Wadworth 6X in Chippenham's Black Horse (2/10), a decent London Pride in the same town's Four Seasons (7/10), but the King Goblin is not dislodged this week for me.

Not often I get to try something radical down here in Somerset but here goes:

Moor Illusion 4.5%
A black IPA () which is heavily hopped, almost to the point of just tasting hops with the dark roast malts leaving the finish. Very different.

Has to be Havant Forgotten, not only is it a lovely pint but in this Remembrance period 10% of profit goes to the Royal British Legion. Only available at the Green Dragon, Lovedean as this is the first year of the brew and local really is local, brewed a few streets away from the pub.

I couldn't say with any certainty that this week's nomination is correct but, after so long a search for this elusive ale, my botw cannot be anything other than Wye Valley Butty Bach, at Birmingham's Wellington.

Two pub visits for me this week-an excellent pint of Shep's Master Brew, though I was hoping for Late Red, and a couple of pints of St Austell Tribute during a training meeting about cattle parasites. I'd been looking forward to trying Tribute for a while, but must admit to being slightly dissapointed with it. A perfectly good and workmanlike Best, but it lacked that wow factor provided by my common and garden Master Brew. However my beer of the week was a bottle of Hopdaemon's Shrimshander, which seems to be as good in bottle as it is in cask:really flavoursome, almost marmalady, followed by a great blast of Kent hops. I rather think I've got another bottle in store for tonight...

Well after Fridays adventures in Brum where several fine ales were sampled BOTW will be Oakhams Inferno .

that was pretty fine beer. However I tried some Ascot COB (http://www.yourround.co.uk/Brewer/Camberley/Ascot-Ales/GU15-3DX.aspx), a hazlenut porter, at the Nags Head yesterday and it was great. My BOTW, just.

Despite the Birmingham meet and the last week of the JDW festival my BotW has to go to the Great Divide Hercules Double American IPA. Had it at the new Euston Tap, it's a wonderful aggressive balance of hops and malt/fruit that challenges the taste buds. At 10% and £4 a half the experience may not be repeated too often so it's my nomination this week.

So many choices, especially from Brum, the Oakham Inferno, the Butty Bach and the Trevors were all excellent but a Blue Monkey beer I had the day before just pips them, Son of Silverback

Friday was a fantastic day for good beer and several of my contenders match other peoples. Loved Butty Bach, MHB Trevor, Oakham Inferno & Bishop's Farewell, but my favourite and BOTW was Titanic Iceberg in the palatial surroundings of The Old Joint Stock.

As was I the first time I tried it. Keep an eye out for 'Proper Job though, I think that'll be much more to your taste.

I knew should have made notes on what beers I had on Friday. Plenty of goodies but the one that probably stood out was recommended to me by Quinno in the Anchor (I think) - Sheffield IPA

Ooh, yes. That was really good. I'll still call it for Ascot COB though (just!).

Following what seems to be something of a theme this week, my BOTW is Three Witches, a special edition from Oakham. A mention has to go to Potbelly's Redwing at 4.8% which is excellent, just not quite as good as the Oakham.

Well I've had quite a few pints this week, but once again none that were truly outstanding.

This weeks vote is going to go to Northern - Bobby Dazzler

Sounds like the Brum meet up was a huge success ,and that some top quality brews were quaffed.Blue Monkey and Titanic also got honourable mentions in this thread ,so my loss for missing out.:(However I did manage to also find Oakham Inferno in The Pig n Falcon in St Neots and have to agree with Oggy that its a fine BOTW.
Those Oakham boys sure can brew...

Once again I have failed to asterisk the good ones on a brilliant day on Friday. Didn't have any poor ones that I recall.

My BOTW is going to the Sheffield IPA.

Lots of variety but not a lot of quality this week. Just one that stood out from a decidedly weak selection: Ha'penny Gog Magog - another good pint from the Green Dragon's autumn beer festival.

Another so-so beer-drinking week for HTM69, with 15 pints and plenty of bottled-lagers condsumed over a 3-day period

Sharp's Doom Bar - 7 pints
Everards Tiger x 1
Guinness x 3
Cottage Brewery Howling Ale x 1
Wadworth 6 x x 1
St Austell's Tribute x 2

BOTW: Everards Tiger
