Hi Conrad just put a picture and review of the Three Legs of Man in leeds city centre which i went in last year but i car'nt find any sign of the "OF MAN" on the pubs signs should this pub just be called the Three Legs or have i made a mistake maybe Ale and Hearty might know about this as he knows alot about the pubs in Leeds.

Thanks Alan.

AFAIK it's always been just the Three Legs, the stone work of the pub seems to support this, A&H may know for certain of course.

Hi Alan

Well I certainly drink a lot in the pubs of Leeds, but that's not necessarily the same thing! Being serious, the pub is / was known by both names -just try googling 'Three Legs of Man Leeds' and see both variants come up. Historically, that's borne out by an article here:http://www.leodis.net/discovery/discovery.asp?page=20031028_930446804&topic=2003114_561367214&subsection=2003114_67302883&subsubsection=2003114_333995998

There's not an awful lot of info about the name itself, although other pubs with a similar name seem to suggest it's linked to the Arms of landowning families. See here for example:http://www.chesterwalls.info/oldpubs5.html

Hope that helps.

Lots of old pictures of the pub here (http://www.leodis.net/searchResults.aspx?LOCID=16&DECADE=0&YEAR=&KEYWORDS=three%20legs&KEYWORDS2=&ANDOR2=&KEYWORDS3=&ANDOR3=&RECSPAGE=5&IMG=0&VIEW=1&RESID=&PUBID=&CURRPAGE=1), but all the signage you can make out just says Three Legs or Three Legs Inn, I love the windows etched with the three legs in the 1937 picture (14 on p3) much better looking than the present clear ones.

Well barring special circumstances I would say go with the pub sign, so Three Legs for me.
