Yep, guess where I'm going on Wednesday?

Hello Tara how are you? Right where's the beer. :D

After that we're going to The Sair Inn, home of Linfit brewery.

You lucky, lucky bar-steward. I think Mallinson's would be top of my visit list at the mo. Have some for me!
Be interesting to see what you make of The Sair these days. Caused quite a stir locally when it was omitted from this year's GBG. See here for example: http://www.aswiftone.com/2010/09/beer-guide-shock.html

Have a good night ROB.

The last time I was in The Sair was about 10 years ago. Hope it's not changed much.

Looks like one needs to beware Sair opening times?

It's a pre booked visit as there's quite a few of us, so we should be OK.

Well, it's amazing how you can brew really good beer in what is effectively a large garage in a residential area of Huddersfield. The brewery was set up with the assistance of Dave Porter (Outstanding brewery) two years ago. Dave was actually on our coach for the trip. Also present was Tony Allen from Phoenix brewery. 3 brewers in one garage!! :notworthy:

Tara (Mallinson) explained how the brewery was set up, what hops/malts they use and other related brewery info whilst we all stood around drinking Dominator & Tri-Continental direct from the barrel. They also put on a nice spread, including some excellent pork pies.

After that we were due to travel to the Sair Inn in Linthwaite, but some warnings from local people in the know had changed the plan (Sair Inn has been dropped from GBG 2011 for inconsistent beer quality). So we went to The Commercial in Slathwaite instead. We were at the back of the coach, so three of us visited the nearby Shoulder Of Mutton rather than wait in a queue at the bar in The Commercial. After a good pint of Copper Dragon Best Bitter we rejoined the happy throng in The Commercial. My only issue with this place is that it uses return valves on it's 9 cask ales. I thought CAMRA were against these and yet it's GBG 2011 listed.

All in all a very pleasant trip out.

I didn't mention that both Tandleman & Tyson were there as well.

Sounds like a good night was had by all. Tyson's description of 'Dominator' sounds right up my street - Centennial and Simcoe hops. Yum.

Just dropped a pre-booked visit? You'll be giving our side of the hill a bad name!

Did you know these folk already?

It had been dropped a couple of days earlier and the pub informed as had the replacement pub the Commercial.

I know Tandleman quite well. I know Tyson to say hello and have a bit of a chat to.

I know Dave Porter to have a chat to as well, the same with Tony Allen.

Plenty of beer luminaries around our neck of the woods. ;)

Popped in the (Porter's) Railway in Stocky on Friday, now seemingly a genuine freehouse, though with Rossendale beers still represented.

Yes Dave sold Rossendale brewery along with its pubs. He then set up Oustanding brewery in Bury, where he still brews.

Ahaaa! I'd not heard of Outstanding, and they had perhaps 3 of their beers on.
