I'm seeing the Joy Formidable (http://www.thejoyformidable.com/) at Koko tomorrow evening and have blagged an afternoon off work to go on the beers with a fellow attendee!

We decided to take advantage of it being a Thursday by drinking in good quality 'weekday-only' pubs.

So far we have:

Jerusalem Tavern
Ye Olde Mitre
Old Fountain
Gunmakers

Any others to add to that list? All suggestions welcome! :) I'm off at 12:30 so any suggestions by then please...

The Speaker (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54176/) in Westminster is another one. Can't speak for the quality myself as, despite walking past every day, I've still yet to go in (although I may be changing that on Friday). Those that have visited think it's pretty good, though.

It's a fair trek from your other options, though.

The Dispensary in Aldgate is a bit east, but well worth a visit

Edgar Wallace (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22089/)
Castle (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23517/)

are walking distance from Mitre/Jerusalem

and Seven Stars (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22067/) would fit between the two, though that isn't weekday only.

Also Cittie of York (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/21917/) is in the immediate area and, although Sam's, is worth a look architecturally. I don't think it's open weekends.

I've also remembered the Hand and Shears but I wasn't mad keen on it when I visited a few years back...

Dispensary is a good shout - but probably too far east on first thoughts (I'll get the tube map out in a bit and plot the traveling!)

ohh, the Castle is a new one for me. The Edgar Wallace me and my companion both managed to do after attending a 'seminar' at a London University that finished at 2:30pm to allow all the Northerners to get home...gotta love out-of-office jollies :D:D:nishelypished::nishelypished:

Right then, googlemaps printed and annotated...should be a good afternoon! Cheers for the suggestions everyone. Looks like we'll stick with pubs around Farringdon and Chancery Lane, stopping off at the Old Fountain for grub en route to Mornington Crescent. My companion is a bit of an ale lightweight so best not overdo it as he is in work tomorrow

Hope I'm not too late. If you're around Chancery Lane try the Princess Louise on High Holborn, near to the junction with Kingsway and Holborn tube. It's one of London's Victorian heritage pubs

So in the end we did:

Jerusalem Tavern
Olde Mitre
Castle
Cittiie of York

...had to miss out the Old Fountain in the end, never mind. Gig was good, though the beer prices in Koko are outrageous (I drank water!)
