Not sure what I will be doing around Nottingham yet, just arrived on a small site at Arnold today, but pub of the month so far will be Maltings York. Had a few visits there last week, and it never let me down.

OK there was a festival on so plenty of beers to choose from, but it will take some beating.

I'm going in early & it's controversial . Spoilt for choice after racing trips to Nottingham & York. Honourably mentions for the cross keys http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58112/, Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/30804/ both Nottingham & golden ball http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/53633/ the slip inn http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58608/ ,the swan http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43666/ all York. The winner though is the pitcher & piano Nottingham http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58133/ It cant compete with the above for beer 2 real ales on but this is a stunning :pray:church :pray:conversion. The stained glass windows are beautiful:love:(must be going soft in old age) . This bar is worth having a look at then head to the nearby cross keys for your fix of beer;)

For me it has to be The Hinton Arms, lovely old pub, landlord makes a real effort to attract trade [has to, the busy A272 goes right by], local sourced , home cooked food, and Bowman [local] ales

http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/13222/

It is just unfortunate the pub is on the way to somewhere else and not a final destination

PS, and nearby is the Flower Pots, never been but highly rated

I'm really glad to hear the old place is still going strong. During my taxi days it was a regular watering hole of mine, and me passengers..........:drinkup:

The two surely have to be taken in tandem? Long on my list of must visits...

Not sure what I will be doing around Nottingham yet

I don't have my route round Nottingham for Fri & Sat yet Gill, but will certainly start in V&F at noon on fri, before heading to the Castle 'fest, then out before it gets horribly busy to take in a couple of pubs before Beeston in the evening where I'm keen to add the ascendent Crown (new to me) to the excellent Victoria.

it's controversial ...

Controversial indeed! But thanks for the tip re Cross Keys, I'll add it as another new one to my Nottingham collection on Saturday.

In my opinion if you walk either way from the Pitcher & Piano you will find better pubs with better beer the P&P is a Marstons theme church if you walk along high pavement theres the Cock and Hoop good choice of beers but not one of my favourites then round the corner theres the Keens head which i rate highly about 6 raeal ales and its a Castle Rock house.
I agree about the Cross Keys i reviewed it recently and go in whenever in Nottingham :drinkup:

If talking about church conversions, the winner must be The Lanyard, North End, Portsmouth http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/59786/

A converted Baptist church [grave spinning anyone?], stunning interior

Real ales & food to boot

I have not had a pint in there, but have been in, sort of JDW but it isn't

More here

Oh, and The Tap next door is having a refurb, real ales there as well

Looks good (even if a former congregation may perceive it somewhat contrary), but can you recall what those two beers were on your visit hondo? I'll most likely be in the area Saturday, but time will be short.

Well, maybe it's another controversial choice for me this month.

A student orientated indie rock bar with candles & flowers!!!!! Surely not. But it is.

The Old House in Sheffield.

If you like music you'll love it. If you don't feel/act your age, you'll love it. If you like good beer, you'll love it.

Just in case anyone has missed my eulogising about The Crown (Heaton La., Stockport), yesterday's beerlist was as follows:

Burton Bridge ............ Dam Dog
Copper Dragon .......... Black Gold
Salopian .................... Choir Porter
Pictish ....................... Centennial
Acorn ........................ Barnsley Bitter
Salopian .................... Shropshire Gold
Sandstone ................. Post Mistress
York .......................... Constantine
Outstanding ............... Outstanding Red
Summer Wine ............. Tiberius
York .......................... Guzzler
BrewDog .................... Paradox (10%, £3.90)
Copper Dragon ........... Golden Pippin
Thornbridge ................ Jaipur IPA
Wolf ........................... Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
BrewDog ..................... 5AM Saint
Cider .......................... Janet's Jungle Juice

keg - Outstanding White Beer (Wheat), Staropramen, Krombacher

Bottles include Brooklyn Chocolate Stout (10.1%, £3.95), Goose Island IPA (£2.85)

Prices rise by abv from £2.30 (5% £2.60, 7.5% £3.10), sun streamed into the bar area, people talked, read papers, drank quality ale.
In a month which included pubs of undoubted star quality in Nottingham, the gong still has to go to The Crown.

I hadn't been to many new pubs this month so yesterday's 15 pinter around a dozen pubs in Lewes was always going to throw up a few nominees. Tough call for my favourtie between the Gardeners Arms & the Lewes Arms. Will plump for the former thanks to the more interesting beers.

The 12Nov attendees should be very afraid, RB has evidently stepped up his training regime!

Yep, Gardeners for me, for the same reason.
I hope the Lewes Arms is doing ok since the great battle with GreedyKing, and subsequent sale to Fullers.

Was in the Lewes about 1.30'ish and it was packed with punters both eating and drinking so I would guess it's as popular as it ever has been.

That followed a quick 8 pinter on Friday in the Bell (Cannon Street), Old Fountain (met up with Bucking Fastard) and the Wenlock (I didn't want what might be my final memory to be of plastic furniture). Thursday was a small matter of 9 pints to kick start the 'Spoons beer festival and could be in for another 10 pinter tonight with a double 'Spoons header, a mini festival in the Malt Shovel and then quiz night. The training is going very well!

October was a reasonable pub month for me ,with the highlights including a trip down the ever reliable Old Fountain and a meet up with Roger ,whose preparation for the Brum extravaganza seemed very professional;)

A special mention should go to The Magpie and Crown,Brentford (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/27430/)on the basis that it will often have a Marble beer available:drinkup::drinkup: but the worthy POTM was The Dove,South Hackney (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/25056/)for it's excellent ales and sublime choice of Belgian bottled beers. It has been awarded the Orval Ambassadeur and is described in the GBG as having possibly the best selection of Belgian beers in the country.I am rather ignorant on the subject of continental beers but for aficionadoes this pub look great.

I'm with Mr Fastard on the Magpie and Crown in Brentford, a fine selection of ales but any boozer purveying Marble gets my vote.

The Old Crown in Uley deserves a mention as a classic Gloucestershire village boozer selling local ales but my Pub of the Month has to be The Merchants Inn in Rugby which in addition to its usual 9 handpumps held a beer festival last week featuring over 100 ales. Great effort.

A very quiet month for visiting pubs that aren't my regular haunts. However, the newly opened Veritas in Leeds has the potential to become a real favourite. Cracking beer and now part of a decent mini-crawl in that side of town.

Has to be http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/5591/ , The Victoria in Durham. I always make a point of coming here on the rare occasions I'm in town, and it never disappoints. Excellent beer, excellent pub, the best bit of Durham.

Spent 8 years in Durham from 1999 to 2008 and this was always the best pub in town, great building, interior, landlord, real ales, real fires, a mix of old regulars and new students.

Glad to see it hasn't changed :)

Not sure what happened to my review of that pub, it must have got lost when migrating from the other site for some reason. I've added it now, although of course the date shows incorrectly. It should be 30/06/09 if one of the mods would like to change it.
