After a quick run round in Birmingham yesterday afternoon - Wellington - Briar Rose - Anchor - Lamp, my BOTW so far is the Blackwater Psychedelic I had in the Welly.

With Burton Wednesday, Sheffield Friday, and possibly the Brunswick at Derby if I remember to get off the train, Solihull Saturday and York Sunday this may change.

What pubs are you planning for Burton?

Don't forget Alexandra Hotel on same street as Brunswick.

Solihull is crap and Soupy can vouch for me..

Burton Bridge as it is for a beer and skittles and faggot and peas night, so probably the only one in Burton.

Usually look in the Alex and Brunswick, but I have been told there is a fest on at the Brunswick this weekend, so after a day at the Sheffield fest even getting to the Brunswick might be too much, but we will see.

Only done the Solihull fest once, but the list has come up with a brewery Sihill and I have no idea where this one is from, and as we are not doing anything Saturday we could pop over in the bus and have a look.

You could pop in Coopers Tavern and Devonshire Arms before heading to Burton Bridge.

Know those 2 and a few others too from going to the Burton festival and looking round the pubs. Will see how the evening goes.

A lovely pint of Twickenham Original in the Junction Tavern (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54420/)NW5 last night...a strong contender for BotW already.

I was in Vienna briefly earlier this week, and spent Tuesday evening visiting some of the many brew-pubs in and around the city.

So, for a non-cask beer of the week as a change, I'll nominate the Herbstbock (6.2%) from the 7 Stern Bräu (www.7stern.at/en_index.html) (which I would also say was the best of the bunch as a place to visit).

Cracking pint of Brew Dog Edge at the CASK yesterday, and also a very good Rebellion Mild at Southall Conservative Club on Friday.

I think the Rebellion Mild just shades it.

A fine couple of sessions in Liverpool this weekend where I found not only my BOTW Stonehenge Pigswill but the most disappointing beer of the week (Kelham Island Pinball Wizard).

BTW Stonehenge Pigswill is in the Punch Taverns scheme "Finest Cask" which I came across in a couple of decent places in Liverpool, 18 breweries involved mostly small, the largest being Brains, Adnams, Thwaites, Wadworths, Caledonian and Everards. The smaller ones are more interesting and include Castle Rock, Moorhouses and Saltaire.

Three frankly average beers this week in the pub:Shep's 'Canterbury Jack'-all I could taste was ginger:I'd rather have had a ginger beer shandy; Hancock's HB, and Black Sheep Best Bitter, which would have been better in Yorkshire and through a sparkler.
My BOTW is Freeminers 'Goldminer', care of the local Co-op.Somehow I'd missed this one in the past. A good clean citrussy golden, using First Gold "hedge hops".

If it helps Hoppy, I had the Tomahawk 12th April.

BOTW - cannot decide really. Had so many festival beers and all in good condition. An asterisk against Milk Street Cobble Wobble from Solihull festival makes me think that was the best, but no - I did vote Derventio Cleopatra beer of the festival, so will make that one my BOTW.

Cask tonight, to raise a glass to Tigerdrinker's newborn, not all pumps on as they wind down to 'meet the brewer' tomorrow, can't recall who - they make Alchemy, though not Abbeydale.
Whilst at the bar, someone came up & ordered 'that bottle with no label' - barman gave fair warning that it was Westvleteren(?) 12, but he went ahead for £35(!!!) for the bottle. A requested bottle menu told me it was 10.2%, and rare, but even so, £35 for 330ml or so? Nope, I couldn't buy a bottle of £000s Petrus either.

Anyway, Brewsters Hop-a-Doodle-Doo, at the Cask.

Here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westvleteren_Brewery

So, according to Wikipedia, and seemingly confirmed here http://www.sintsixtus.be/eng/brouwerij.htm , the abbey sells it at E38 for 24 btl crate (excl crate & btl deposit) so, if you can get hold of some, £35 per btl is quite a mark up! Perhaps many middle men have been involved...

Last November I paid 12 euros in Amsterdam (Cracked Kettle) for a bottle which is still a hell of a mark up.
A cheaper alternative is Westmalle, same recipe, same bottles but brewed commercially although I don't think they do a "12"

A mention for a couple of fine pints of Mallinson's Hops Crossing at The Baum and Springhead Roaring Meg.

But the BOTW is going to be Acorn Gorlovka Stout tried at The Regal Moon on both Friday & Saturday.

A rather friutless trawl around the pubs in Bishops Stortford threw up no contender but The New Inn,Roydon had as a guest the ever reliable Crouch Vale Brewers Gold which gets the BOTW.

This week looks long on work commitments and short of pub opportunities,a challenge in itself for a BOTW.:(

As good as it sounds. The Bull & Fairhouse (O'Donoghues) is featuring some fantastic beers since it opened.

I don't think the beer list (http://www.markettaverns.co.uk/The-Market-Porter/) is up-to-date but, when I'm in the Market Porter (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/24205/) Friday evening, I shall see if they're offering anything from Abbeydale. To be honest, if the (apparent) name's anything to go by, I shall be setting my expectations fairly low
