Any recommendations for the line through to Stockport? It's a nice little scenic route but never stopped anywhere midway myself.

I've copied this across from a different thread (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?38509-Buxton&p=124684#post124684).

The Buxton line (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buxton_line#/media/File:Buxton_line.png) goes from Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton via Stockport, the relevant section from Stockport having 11 stations, if we include the terminus in Buxton.

I don't suppose anyone has ever described Davenport (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/davenport/greater-manchester/), Woodsmoor (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/great-moor/greater-manchester/) or Hazel Grove (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buxton_line#/media/File:Buxton_line.png) as scenic. There are quite a few pubs, mostly lining the A6.

Next stop is Middlewood. This used to have a station on two lines, at right angles on different levels, the upper one being closed but now in use as a walking or cycling route. I went to the Boars Head (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/88066/) in Upper Poynton, an easy walk from the station. A cycle ride takes you almost effortlessy to Bollington (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/bollington/cheshire/), which has some possibles, including four that have not been reviewed for this site. I went to The Holly Bush (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/52752/) in June, and it was a little underwhelming. Ian Mapp liked The Vale Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/52774/), as did Aqualung, and so did I nine years ago. (Have you got a bike? :) ) In the opposite direction along the disused railway line is the A6 in High Lane, with a handful of pubs. The Bulls Head (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/64233/)is about a mile away, or an alternative route on a footpath and the canal towpath (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Middlewood,+Poynton,+High+Lane,+Stockport/53.3649635,-2.0758656/@53.3634727,-2.0843692,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x487a4ac53de1c151 :0xf3cc7b1f2c5a6972!2m2!1d-2.0836921!2d53.3600486!1m0!3e2) is pleasanter.

Disley (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/disley/cheshire/) is the next station, and there are some choices here. Quite a pleasant village strung out along the A6, with a micro (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/85851/) and a posh-looking hotel-cum-dining pub (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61914/). The White Horse (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60132/) was disappointing. At the other end of the village is The White Lion (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60133/), which was just about to change hands when I visited just over three years ago, so needs a new review.

New Mills Newtown (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/new-mills/derbyshire/) has no open pubs nearby, but a shortish walk into New Mills throws up some possibilities, though to be honest I wouldn't call any of them a "must-visit". (The best way into the centre of New Mills is along the main road then left on Wirksmoor Road (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/New+Mills+Newtown/53.3636713,-2.002923/@53.3616926,-2.0071638,17.87z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x487a353b19ced321:0xf42d0 74d96ddb2d5!2m2!1d-2.008524!2d53.359642!1m0!3e2) to the Rock Tavern (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7378/) - beware: Google maps has misplaced the map point but Pubs Galore is correct - and then even if it's not open you have the options of the Shrub Club (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/89194/) and the Rock Mill brewery (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/89980/) tap. Even if one or more are not open, the scenery in the gorge of the River Goyt is worth the trip to see.)

Furness Vale (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/furness-vale/derbyshire/) has one pub near the railway (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7350/) that needs reviewing, and another (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7383/) on the A6 which I found disappointing four years ago but Rob Hunter gave it a favourable review a year later.

Whaley Bridge (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/whaley-bridge/derbyshire/) looks promising, and my visit to the The Shepherds Arms Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7381/) was ok, but when I put my head around the door of the pub near the station (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7377/) I didn't see or hear anything that I liked so walked out again.

Chapel-en-le-Frith (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/chapel-en-le-frith/derbyshire/) is quite a pleasant town, but the station is a mile out of town (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Chapel-en-le-Frith/Chapel-en-le-Frith,+High+Peak/@53.3181323,-1.9250064,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x487a339362718d c7:0x2ff2f98f06aa1e44!2m2!1d-1.9187655!2d53.3122261!1m5!1m1!1s0x487a3301b6f7f05 f:0xe97e6641924c95da!2m2!1d-1.9129233!2d53.323988!3e2) in what feels like the middle of nowhere. Possibly a better option is to use the bus from Furness Vale or Whaley Bridge instead. The micro (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/86933/) was pretty good when I visited four years ago (and Richard gave it a thumbs up last year too).

All the pubs in Dove Holes (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/dove-holes/derbyshire/) have closed down.
