Yet more watery Dutch Lagers from WW II. Hopefully, at least a couple of you find this stuff as interesting as I do.
Oddly, Licht Lagerbier was hardly any weaker than Pils. Though, if you look closely, you’ll see that the samples are from a few months earlier and are still around the pre-war level of 8-9º Plato. Had the samples been taken a little later, the gravities would have been around 6º Plato, just like the Heineken version a couple of pages back.

On average, the Licht Lagerbiers are a bit darker than the Pilseners, though not really by a significant amount. The rate of attenuation is almost identical at a little over 74%.

A couple of examples – Amstel and Bavaria – are around the pre-war level of 3.5% ABV. The weakest are only about 2% ABV.

In comparison, the dark Cooking Lagers are 0.5º weaker than their pale siblings. The mostly lower rate of attenuation drops their average ABV below 3%. Only two examples are over 3% ABV.

There’s a massive variation in colour, from 6.8 to 22 on the Brand scale. Which is equivalent to 42 to 95 EBC. So between dark amber and dark brown.
