As a matter of interest, is that due to the current political climate, or did teh landlord have another reason to change it?

It is now a live event venue and gastro bar focusing on african and south american cuisine etc, so I would imagine the new owners thought that the name wasn't really appropriate.

Thanks Strongers. Yes, I can see how there might have been a few raised eyebrows in the PC community over that one. it's a pity, though, as I'm guessign the name woudl originally have been a reference to chimney sweeps rather than the slave trade. Although it's just one small word, it does have the effect of blurring history.

Funny how it would now be read as the oppressive white man enslaving africans and transporting them around the world when it was in fact the oppressive white man sending his kids up a chimney for 16 hours a day!

Round the chimney!
Round the chimney, step in time
Round the chimney, step in time
Never need a reason,
Never need a rhyme
Round the chimney, step in time
