Okay so we are now well in to another lockdown. Some have enjoyed a bit more freedom with the tier system but we are all now in the same boat.

If you could spend a few hours in one pub (no restrictions - table booking / service etc) which pub would it be ?

Over to you.....

The Station (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32757/), the pick of the marvellous Golden Triangle in Oakengates... sadly marked as closed, I hope the landlord is recovering ok...

Tough!

Locally, I'd really like to have a few beers in the Blake Hotel (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43068/).

But on the other hand, what I've missed with the Covid regulations is going from pub to pub, no hassle of giving name and details, no using an app; so I'd like to go to the Crow Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/63374/), Shakespeares (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43362/), Kelham Island Tavern (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56068/), Fat Cat (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43149/) and Gardeners Rest (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43179/).

Or if restrictions on public transport were to be lifted, a quick train journey to Derby to see how many of the 16 handpumps in the Brunswick Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7022/) I can manage in one session. If still standing, the Sheffield Tap (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/68140/) when I get back would be a nice option.

Or going further afield, a train on the Settle-Carlisle line could get me to the Talbot Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55447/). Or a nice long journey with no face mask to the Lake District for a go at the eight hand pumps on the bar at the Manor Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/6008/).

Or if crowds are going to be allowed at football matches, how about a few pre-match pints in the Bricklayers Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61697/)? It can get a bit crowded there on match days, but in your fantasy universe, presumably we don't have to worry about keeping two metres apart any more.

Thanks for the suggestion, Delboy. It's been fun!

One minute up the road to the village club and its six handpumps featuring mostly local beers from smaller Kent and East Sussex breweries...

Shakespeares (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43362/), Kelham Island Tavern (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56068/), Fat Cat (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43149/).

Would love to be in the above.

Otherwise, my favourite new pub of 2020 (and now one of my favourite London pubs): The Lord Tredegar (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/24990/).

But if I were in my favourite local, within a 30-minute walk of where I live, I'd probably be in The Prince Alfred (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22729/).

I'd choose any of the 9 that I selected in this post (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?28917-Your-top-10-pubs&p=97939&viewfull=1#post97939) on a 'Top 10 Pubs' thread which has not long celebrated its second birthday. (Actual title 'Your top 10 pubs (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?28917-Your-top-10-pubs))

I'd happy spend an hour or three in any of them, either alone or in company, but right now, I'd choose The Bell (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61608/) at Aldworth, Berks.

Along much the same lines, for me it has to be The George (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/35541/).Not the most historic or beautiful pub and Croydon is hardly the centre of the pub universe but I've really missed the quality pints both pre and post match, the banter and the sociability.Last visit 13th March 2020 :(

I see sh couldn't summon up the Will power to stick to the brief, and made mention of ten pubs, but I did enjoy re-reading our previous nominations for top-10 pubs.
Of the upper-echelons (according to most choices) I had 7 missing, of which I have since managed to tick only one. As the top10s were generally agreed to be a moveable feast, I wonder whether that is a subject ready for review, or too soon after losing most of a pub year..? Or, perhaps, what are your top 5 'new' targets, once we are allowed back into the field..?

As with the "top 10 pubs" thread, I actually picked 11 in reply to Delboy's original post!

And yes, as has often been pointed out, will-power is not necessarily my strong point.

Not quite sticking to the brief but in ascending order of proximity:

White Horse (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/29953/), Welton - oft visited, rarely disappointed.
Seven Stars (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37232/), Rugby - number one local meeting spot.
Marble Arch (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/26061/), Manchester - with the usual crew for top quality ale.

I dearly hope that they all re-open and as soon as possible.

Yes. It's the third most expensive pub I've visited which is why I never have more than one pint but as a regular, going about twice a week, I got an unofficial loyalty discount of about 30p per pint. I suppose you pay for the Nationally Important interior...

Some great suggestions, even though the "one" pub brief has been largely ignored:confused:

If I could go out right now and have a few pints without regulations, eating, social distancing etc it would be The Vine (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/38031/) or Old Swan Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/53681/) . I live within walking distance of both and it is a tough call to separate them. I think The Bull & Bladder just edges it as I am from Quarry Bank. I drive past it every day.

If i was having a few pre match pints it would be The Wellington (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37946/)

The one pub I would like to visit would be The Ponsonby Arms (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/52009/) in Llangollen with its 10 cask ales.
But it will never happen because it is now on the "Pubs No More" site due to Covid going on too long!

My best Football match pub would be "The Golden Triangle" at Oakengates with its 10 rooms, about 30 handpumps and 3 sets of toilets to choose from all closer than the one set in some Wetherspoons! I always return after the match to continue the pleasure and have a pint with Oggwyn.
It would also mean my team FC United would have been promoted a league to meet Telford again! More Fantasy Island!!

Looks like it's going to be an even longer long time. (https://www.standard.co.uk/news/health/pubs-restaurants-reopen-may-comments-b900641.html?itm_source=Internal&itm_channel=homepage_banner&itm_campaign=breaking-news-ticker&itm_content=4)

If they insist on this then schools should remain closed as well.

The Railwayman's Arms in Bridgnorth; although I could put up with any Bathams or Holdens pub that does MILD and has no twigs as an alternative!
