So far this month just having done Hartlepool, it has to be between the quirky Rat Race Ale House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/68607/) just for being what it is, a genuine friendly free house with no lager, good conversation and good beer, and the Jacksons Arms (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/4020/), a true back street local with friendly staff and customers serving the best quality ale we had in Hartlepool.

A jolly good trio of pubs in North Norfolk:

Vernon Arms in Southrepps - http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/28696/
The Crown in Trunch - http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/28358/
Foundry Arms in Northrepps - http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/27976/

Excellent customer service, excellent food and quality ales.

The Boathouse at Wylam near Newcastle was recommended to me today and wow,
it is a superb pub. Called in lunchtime today and there are 15 handpulls,
baskets of food, black pudding absolulely out of this world. All sorts on. Best was
the crack with the customers when Ray said their Black pud was nearly as good as
Black Country fare, and one said "Whats the number of the ambulance?" We did
have a laugh. There is a beer fest of Islands breweries, Arran, Skye, Man etc. It is
on till 31st Aug all going through the handpulls. Brill pub, brill food, brill beer, brill
company and staff. Pub of the month.

Other than my local this is my first POTM (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/25373/) I have put forward. This truely is a hidden gem with welcoming staff and seven ales including a couple from Skinners, which I rarely see in North London. The guy behind the bar was more than friendly and the usual Holloway pub crowd are nowhere to be seen as the draught range is very limited. This pub is a short walk from Upper Holloway station which is one stop on barking line to Gospel Oak for those who have not visited the Southampton Arms (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23788/).

Sorry I don't put the link to the pub like the rest of you do, I don't know how to.

I have just added the links to the post, I certainly don't feel anyone has to though.

There are 2 ways, in both you need to store the link first, so from the pubs page on Pubs Galore highlight the address in the address bar, something like:
http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/4020/ then right click on the highlighted text and click on copy.

Then make your post in on the forum, you can either right click in where you type and select copy, or you can highlight some text that you want to make a link, once you have done this click on the icon above the text that looks like a planet with a little pair of handcuffs underneath, in the window that appears, right click on the highlighted text and select paste then click on ok.

This months pub of the month is going to be Brigantes in York.

http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54329/

It's always been one of my top pubs in York but they excelled themselves last week for both beer and food. I had a haggis pie! It was excellent. :notworthy:

I have tried to copy and paste for the other pub I did in Wylam yesterday. I have a photo for it when I get my write ups done. Couldn't find address for the Boathouse which is still my Pub of the month.

When I go from forum to look for the pub, I have to sign in again too.

Still not sure what is going on with the remember me being lost on the main site, so wont comment on you needing to log in again.

As to the navigating between the main site and the forum it sounds like you have not discovered the miracle that is tabs. Not sure what browser you are using, I remember you installed Firefox. At the moment in my copy of Firefox I have going down from the top of the screen the:
- top of the browser with a title and the close window off to the right
- the menu bar
- the tool/address bar
- then the tabs
This tab has "Pub of the Month" visible on it and a little '+' to the right of it. If I click on that '+' it opens a new tab that I can use. For me this tab is a blank window, but it will probably open yours on your home page. Anyway you will still see "Pub of the Month", but you will also see next to it a new tab set up on your home page, from which you could navigate to Pubs Galore, then you can just click on whichever tab you want to use at any given time, the x to the right of the active tab allows it to be closed.

If you are in IE (as long as it is 7 or higher) I think you can't see the tabs until you have more than one, you can open a new tab by clicking on the File menu at the top and selecting new tab. Or in either browser you can hold down ctrl then tap t with ctrl still down it will open a new tab.

Hope that helps.

I thought it was just me. I use 2 PCs; the one with Firefox3.0 needs to log in at each session while the one with IE8.0.6001 doesn't.

As the only pub I've rated 10/10 this month, The Anderson in Fortrose http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/64670/ has my nomination. I wish it weren't at the wrong end of the country.

If Conrad's next description appears complicated Gill, it boils down to having 2 copies of PG open at the same time, and clicking or toggling between the two...

Thats what I do.

The remember me doesn't work for me either since my computer had a paddy a few months ago.

I did this:

1.Open IE: Open your Internet Explorer
2.Open IE Options: Click Tools from the menu above and then click Internet Options
3.Navigate to Content Options: Click the Content tab in the new Internet Options window
4.Open AutoComplete Settings: Click the Settings button under the AutoComplete section
5.Turn Option On: Check both “User names and passwords on forms” and “Prompt me to save passwords”
6.Save Settings: Click the OK button for AutoComplete Settings and then click the OK button for Internet Options.
7.Test Setting: Now visit a website where you type a username and password and when you submit the form it should now ask if you would like Windows to save your password for this username.

It's not ideal, but saves typing your whole e-mail address and password everythime the password times-out (if that is the right terminology) as once you type the first letter of your e-mail address it will allow you to pick your e-mail address and your password will automatically be entered.

I had a problem with the “remember me” not working - at Conrad’s suggestion I tried logging in via the main Galore website (http://www.galorenetwork.co.uk/), and for some reason it has been fine ever since. I use Firefox, btw, ever since I converted, whenever I have had to use IE, it feels like switching from a Mercedes to a Ford Cortina.

Easy call for me this month - the Prince of Wales in Farnborough. Went for 1 pint, stayed for 8(ish). Great little no nonsense pub, the locals were superb company and 10 ales, mostly micros, hard to finds or old favourites.

Thanks Strongers. I am now remembered and it's a great feeling. Also thanks Conrad. I have now worked the tabs out. Everything is so simple.

Having a walk into York now to celebrate my new found knowledge in the time honoured way.

Cheers.

My pub of the month is The Hillgrove (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/417/) in Bristol. Their choice of beers is always very good, but when I visited on Sunday, they had excelled themselves. For the record:-

Arbor Motueka
Brewdog 5am Saint
Brewdog The Physics
Crouch Vale Amarillo
Crouch Vale Brewer’s Gold
Dawkins Brassknocker Blonde*
Dawkins ttt*
Potbelly Beijing Black
Potbelly Best
Severn Vale Blake’s Severn

:notworthy:

It was originally our first stop on a crawl, but turned into something of a lengthy stay. The beer inspired me to such a degree that the Sunday Times crossword was actually finished on a Sunday for the first time in ages. We celebrated this achievement with … more beer.

*It’s a Dawkins Pub, btw.

Although only visiting a fraction of the pubs Soupy has managed:notworthy: my POTM was The Whitefriars Olde Ale House in Coventry. The thought of a pub crawl around Cov city centre didnt fill me with joy after my previous attempts in the 80's ,when The Specials "Ghost Town" was so true but with the passage of time I found some good pubs ,one outstanding .

My favourite this month was the Brunswick Inn, Derby (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/7022/) - first time I've been there and could have happily stayed all day.

Mind you, there's plenty of other quality pubs in that town, as I discovered!

I'll be breaking my duck there next Wed; shame that I'll be restricted to a pint (one joker max, maybe) amongst whistle stop town crawl.

It's been a very quiet month for new pubs, in fact any pubs at all apart from my usual favourites. However, I loved the Star Inn, St Just (Cornwall), on my recent hols: http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/4942/

As a traditional pub hound, it was just my sort of place. Friendly staff and locals and excellent quality beer.

Just to chuck my pub of the month into the thread before moving this thread out for the new one.

Ended up in The Three Tuns (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/696/) on Friday at Dave's suggestion.

Previously it had a very student reputation being next door to a college building, but it closed down about a year ago and reopened about 4 months ago and we haven't hazarded in due to old dislikes.

So anyway wondered in, good old fashioned bar wooden floors, and not too many tables, 6 real ales on tap, friendly staff and a criminally empty pub. As a quick warning we popped over at lunch to experiment with their 2 choices of rolls only to discover they have currently changed their opening times to 5 Monday to Thursday.

Our suspicion is that they are now placing their hopes on the imminent opening of a new Environment agency office across the road and I will update at that point as I suspect they will open lunches then and possibly up their food offering.

It is 2 minutes walk from the now closed Bag O'Nails (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54960/), so should be a good replacement for people looking for Bristol venues. Would be interested to hear what our Bristol posters make of it?

Pub of the Month for me is the Cask Pub and Kitchen in Pimlico.

I know this place divided opinions over on the other site, but for me it is one of the top pubs in the capital and it's been interesting to see it develop over the last year or so.
My previous visits had been either on mid-week evenings or early afternoons, so I'd never really seen much of a crowd in there, but this month I visited on a Friday night and the place was full. The previously lacking atmosphere was great, the bar-staff were very helpful and the beer was outstanding.
I would certainly urge anyone who went in the early days and wrote the place off to give it another try as it seems to improve with every visit.

the now closed Bag O'Nails (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54960/),

No! Why?
I find my report from late '09, not (yet) brought over. I was ver ver by then...

"A welcoming beacon on our dark, staggery, approach. Bath Festival Gold, Northumbrian Bucking Fastard, Facers North Star Porter, 2 reverse clipped (GWB Classic Gold, a.n.other), 14Nov. Straightforward one-room bar, mock fire to rear, big mirror, old pumpclips, ugly toby jugs above top bar shelf, nice window to street. I wrote down ‘great staff’, but can’t remember why. Pies & pasties in warm cabinet at bar, £1.50/£1.80, salvation!"

Shamelessly stolen from Bristol CAMRA publication Pints West:

Ten years after winning the branch pub of the year award we have the sad sight
of the Bag O’Nails in St Georges Road, Hotwells closed and boarded up.
Paul and licensee Manda had been looking for a buyer for some months, partly
due to a health scare for Paul and partly the current tough trading conditions. Unfor-
tunately no buyer came forward and they decided it was time to close up, finishing
on the busy weekend of the harbour festival to go out on a high.
It is now believed that there is a buyer lined up that hopes to reopen the pub in
the not too distant future.
Paul and Manda would like to thank all their customers for supporting them
over the last three years and also Helen Perry for all her hard work behind the bar
over many more years.

Further to my nomination, I've just read that the CASK will soon be showcasing beers from Huddersfield's Mallinsons brewery. I've never come across their beers down this way but having read many a glowing review on previous BOTW threads, I may well head into town to try some out.

Yes, I'd heard that and by some stroke of luck I will be passing through Victoria on Wednesday evening, so I think I'll drop in and see what's on. I heard they are having a meet the brewer event on the Wednesday night as well.
