A few good ones on that list, I'd agree with most. We're not limited to WW2 are we?

There are a couple of decent ones depicting the Vietnam War but mostly they're over-long US navel gazing or re-fighting a lost war.

Ice Cold in Alex
In Which we Serve
The Cruel Sea
San Demetrio, London
Dunkirk (both)
Waterloo
The Longest Day
Gallipoli
The Way to the Stars
Zulu
The Big Red One
Paths of Glory

Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter

Over-long US navel gazing, I fell asleep during Apocalypse Now it was so tedious, Conrad's Heart of Darkness was much better, and a bloody sight shorter.

PS I think I fell asleep during the Deer Hunter as well, notable only for the music.

Never understood the attraction of The Deer Hunter. Similar to my non-plussedness about Raging Bull. Both long and meandering.

Not as long and meandering as Cimino's critically panned Heavens Gate.

ha ha, yes I have that on my list to watch, mainly just to see whether it's as awful as reputation suggests.

I'm not sure whether or not I've technically seen it as I fell asleep after the first half hour, so missed the remaining three.
