Cricketers, Smithfield and George&Dragon. Best for ale was Cricketers, but for food and views I prefer the George and Dragon.

I'm risking a 6, not sure about PoW Shrews, but we did overnight there, so hopefully ticked. Who knows on a dat which started in a pub packed full of Lions fans?
Gutted not to have Tom Cobley, a friend was getting married in that direction-ish but pub was shut for staff outing. Others visited after the wedding and send me photos from the cellar tour they got, grrr..!!!

Just the George and Dragon, but years ago, before the current regime. I'm hoping to get there this Autumn, though I've said that before.

Definitely been to six of these, including the Prince of Wales in Shrewsbury. (I even used the toilets, and there was no "Trainman woz ere" etched into the tiles, sorry Jim.)

Also George & Dragon, Hope, Bell, Smithfield and Flying Horse. Been meaning to visit St Helens, but never quite made it (it's bad enough when they come to Headingley). May have to do a Cricketers-but-no-rugby-league trip.

May have to do a Cricketers-but-no-rugby-league trip.

I did it for free by bus from Liverpool when I was there to visit the new JDW. I didn't go to any other St Helens pubs as it's somewhat out on a limb. There was certainly enough beers and ciders to try!

The Red Lion hasn't been reviewed since 2011..

The two regular cask ales and stone age opening times put me right off the place. At least there's an infrequent bus service.

If the Bell wins then the etching of my name onto one of the bricks in the Planetarium will gain national siginificance. Maybe.

It has now!

In fact I've been to three of the four finalists this year, and the other in 2016. I made special trips to the Red Lion and the Swan with Two Necks after seeing this thread. All very good pubs, though I wasn't as impressed with the George and Dragon as with the other three. Obviously my reviews are not based on the Camra marking criteria, but on the basis of my scores the winner would be *drum roll* The Bell at Aldworth.

Nice work Quinno. Thought I recognised the name under the photos on the BBC website.
