Hi all,

The great pub decline continues... Mad O'Rourkes are the latest to suffer.

Could it be that many of our wants and preferences on the Pub Grub thread are outdated and unwanted in todays style and tastes ? Pies are a small item on todays varied pub menus, perhaps a chicken or minced beef at the most. People nowadays are fickle creatures always wanting something new to distract them, not at all like their ancestors who did not appear to mind a repetitive and limited diet.
A look at a JDW menu will show such a variety of meals which we all know is likely prepared in a factory near junction 12 M40. A further look around will show just how many people are happy ordering and sometimes eating it.Quiet a lot. Pies have bad press when it comes to diet sheets making their selection sometimes a guilt ridden choice.

I am sad to read of the death of these pie pubs as will many here. Is pie eating to become a an activity carried out only in private ? Or perhaps on a park bench while said pie is concealed in a brown paper bag together with a bottle of crackling rose ? Times are a changing and I blame the government.

This chain is anew one on me, never knew there would actually be a pub chain specialising in pies, live & learn

I think I would be guilty of not eating pies in there, unless pie is home made, or on premises I trusted, I would avoid it, I like to know what is in my food, which is not to say after 4 pints I would not eat a gristleburger, just I would rather not

We did the Mad O'Rourke trail 3 times and got 2 of the little demon wine dispensers with the appropriately placed spigot. Still have about a dozen of the mugs with the limericks on too. Happy days.

The only Pubs Ive seen were Fullers Pie & Ale House Pubs but most of these are now Thai Restaurants.
I would prefer Pie & Mash Myself.

I was under the impression that Sweeney Todds provided the pies for the Nags Head in Reading.
After 4 pints most things look good to me...gristleburgers...pies of doubtful parentage.....ugly women or their mothers. Before that I can sometimes be picky. It pays not to think to hard of how your food is prepared. t could lead to nightmares or just plain starvation.
I see our caring Govt. is not going to ban trans fats and is not worried if school meals go back to turkey twizzlers and chips.
