Ethanol isn't tasteless, and does affect a drink in a way which is difficult to reproduce. Which is why no- and low-alcohol drinks seldom compare favourably with the original. They don't work for me, I prefer an ordinary soft drink or a shandy if I don't want much, or any, alcohol.
