The award for All Fur Coat And No Knickers goes here (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37289/)

I agree with Quinno and Will on this one (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/74624/). Seven years, seven, of bad reviews.

For a bizarre pretentious atmosphere, non existent service and extortionate fizz beer I would go with 75 Church Street (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/19256/).

The Cock Tavern, (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/28063/)it really was cock.

Didn't like this one (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55185/) much.

Fortunately most of my 2018 trips were to new or long ago visited places where I used this wonderful resource to target the best pubs in town..

Consequently I didn't have the misfortune to come across some real dogs dinners in 2018 and Shillingford Bridge Hotel (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/73044/) was probably the worst it got for me..

Doncaster's Angel & Royal (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/62613/) gets my vote. It's a truly dreadful place but there were quite a few in and I can only surmise it was because of the cheap prices. It was formerly a JDW Lloyds and a Yates but it can't have been worse then can it?

Commiserations to you all, but your nominations have zero chance of winning this award in the face of this one: The Old Rock (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58268/). When I tell you that Alan Winfield's younger brother was unable to finish a half of John Smiths Smooth Crap, you'll get some idea of how dire this pub was.

The Hind & Hart (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23836/) in Colindale, NW9. Easily the worst of the year, and probably in my Top 5 worst of all-time.

Three places have scored 2 this year.

First, we have The Cathedral Hotel (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/79070/) - "if I went to hell and was sentenced to pub purgatory, this place could be the blueprint."

Next up - Travellers Rest (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/59511/) - "You’d have to be either a completist or a barrel-scraper to do this one (some may argue I am both)"

And finally - The Crown Tavern (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/86382/) - "It’s not often I feel genuinely unwelcome in a pub, but this place managed it"

Tough call!!

The worst I can offer is the Sports Bar & Grill (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/71875/) in Farringdon, but scoring a '3' isn't going to win the prize (even though I had to try visiting three times before actually purchasing something...).

I always try to find some positives in a pub, even if not to my own taste. However there has to be an exception (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/82885/). I can think of one or two other likely contenders, but they stole the advantage by not even opening, which must surely be the definition of the worst pub!

And just to add some fuel to the fire, here (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/57016/) is my nomination for the worst 'Spoon's visited during the year.

For a deconsecrated JDW this one (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37009/) pushes the genre to the limit.

This one Blonde Barrel (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/70014/) in Newcastle.

Truly awful, with no redeeming features at all.

Agree, as do most of the most recent reviewers.

Not been to many new pubs this year but did encounter a less than memorable experience at The Perch Inn (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58048/) a few days ago. This place would seem to be more of a restaurant conversion than pub.

Thanks all, a cracking read which made me feel much better about my mostly unadventurous year - apart from first Burton tour - and the fact that I mostly cherry pick these days, with the superb help of the erudite PG scribes.

We did stumble into a couple that should feature but my lazy lack of reviews, or even note-taking, means I don't have a record of which they were, mea culpa...

What did you think of Burton? I like it a lot more than the days when I used to go there for a visit to Burton Bridge and / or Marstons. The traffic is still a pain! I like to combine it with an evening visit to the Alex & Brunswick in Derby.

I was fairly impressed with that one when I went earlier in the year (just thrown up the review). Though I was moved to add my final sentence in light of your comments :)

Ohh there is a new winner (just finishing off some revisit notes): The Red Lion (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/1989/)

"If this pub were a horse, it’d have a bolt put through its head to end its suffering."

Score of 1.5! It was beyond awful.

Score of 1.5 "beyond awful"? That's southern softy scoring, that is. Up north when we give a 1 it's only because scores below that are not available.
