Hi Conrad!

I had a pint of Leed's Brewery Midnight Bell today.. it is excellent! very similar to Titanic Chocolate and Vanilla. Very dangerously drinkable! I think it is 4.3%. It was in Tamworth's JDW Silk Kite.

Actually, Hoppy it's 4.8%, which makes it even more dangerous. It slides down like mothers' milk though, doesn't it?

:D Thanks for clearing up! I wasn't sure about %.

It was very lovely pint, bit milky if you know what I mean.

Had a decent session tonight, dominated by dark beers. Tried Springhead 'The Leveller', Fernandes 'Wakefield Pride' & 'Sportsman's Stout', Wentworth 'Short & Stout' and Naylor's 'Black & Tan'. So far the Sportsman's is in the lead.

It was very lovely pint,

With you on this one Hoppy. The Midnight bell was my fave of the Leeds Brewery beers when I had a weekend in Leeds last year.. Sadly not seen them appearing south of Watford Gap yet...

Funnily enough, I thought of you when I was in The Grove on Thursday lunchtime. I remember reading your original review that said the locals kept you there until gone midnight. It's still as friendly and the beer as good. If you ever make it up to Leeds again, let me know. There are some other fine places, that you missed last time, I could show you.

Yep, that was a great way to finish what had been a really good day, and i still thank you for your recommendations.

Will certainly take you up on your offer.. There is talk of us ressurecting our Vets football tour to the North York Dales, but as we've now got more dodgy knees and ankles than the England squad, the football will probably be replaced by shove halfpenny and a game of pool...:D.

Anyway, have two crawls in central London arranged for the next two nights, where I'll probably find my beer of the week (to get us back on thread), but I'm not expecting to find any hidden Grove Inn's.

Don't suppose you'll be toasting Dan Hipkiss on your travels.

Don't suppose you'll be toasting Dan Hipkiss on your travels.

Already got over that , and it was equally the fault of the Sarries pack switching off when they saw the ref award the pen as it was quick thinking from Hipkiss..

The great thing about being a rugby fan is that it doesn't bugger you up for a whole week , , like in Footballwhen your team looses . A few post match wet ones in the Barmy Arms and the Eel Pie by the Thames with the Leicester supporters, and the result was largely forgotten.

And already looking forward to doing it again for the Zurich Premiership season kick off double header in September...

The best Beers of this week was the several Pints Highgate Black Pig I had Monday in Wetherspoons. very good and easy drinkable. don't think any others will beat it this week.

HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV
Highgate Brewery, West Midlands. Est. 1899
This dark ale has warming notes of fruit and malt on the nose,
followed by a complex blend of malt, fruit, chocolate and liquorice
on the palate, perfectly balanced by a satisfying, bitter finish.
Hops used: Fuggles, Progress

Although I will be in a pub on Sunday celebrating a relative's birthday,it's a GK tied house:sick: so I might as well nominate a BOTW now ,Yorkshire Terrier from the York Brewery supped in the convivial Corner Pin in Doncaster.

Next week more boating ,with visits to Mexborough and then Sheffield for the first time.May be difficult to decide on next weeks BOTW if the stories I hear about The Steel City are true:drinkup::drinkup::drinkup:

Aye Yorkshire Terrier is quite something. I visited there in 2006.

Sheffield is heaven for real ale pubs but I cannot recommended you any pubs as I haven't visited Sheffield for 6 years now.

Only one night out this week (normal friday out cancelled due to wedding aniversary) so limited choice , Salopian Hop Twister , Wood Wheatear , Purple Moose Cwrw Eryi , Coastal Wollandale Black and a special mention to Morton Merry Mount at £1 60 a pint , only 3.6% but tasty , BOTW goes to Wood Wheatear , just right for a warm afternoon

Can you believe yet another week has gone by without a trainman pub visit? Nope, neither can I!
This enforced abstinence has, though, resulted in a 2st weight loss but, boy, could I murder some BEER!

I can't bring myself to nominate another bottled botw.

Had a few good ones this week, Oakham JHB and York Guzzler amongst them. However my BotW goes to Dark Star Festival.

Westerham Brewery's Grasshopper Best Bitter. probably a bit dark to be really popular, but an excellently hoppy and quaffable beer. Who says Wye targets are dull hops?

Well after a week of suffering FP in the form of San Miguel, Cruzcampo, Mahou etc I was desperate to get a decent pint in when we got back.

Landed 19:45, home by 21:40, in the Baum by 22:10, where a gentle 4 pints took the edge off.

So with only 4 to choose from this week I'll go for Summer Wine Epoch, light and hoppy and tasty, unlike that FP stuff!

So it has been rather poor week so I'll go for above...

I Tried several other beers later this week but the HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV still ended up as my best beer of the week so the HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV gets my vote.

Had some very good beers this week, but one stands head and shoulders above all the others - Crouch Vale Amarillo, as tried at the Old Fountain, Old Street.

With the Dartford Beer Festival suppliying HTM69 with a few interesting brews to sample, last week proved to be a good’un, beer-wise.

18 pints over a 3-day period

Ringwood Fortyniner x 1
Guinness x 4
Millis Brewery Gravesend Guzzler x 1
Rudgate Brewery Jorvic Blonde x 1
Teignworthy Real Ale x 1
Dark Star American Pale Ale x 1
Millis Brewery Kentish Red x 1
Cotleigh Barn Owl x 1
Three Breweries Stoker Slake x 1
Oxfordshire Ales Maypole x 1
Cottage Brewery Phantom x 1
Sharps Doom Bar x 4

BOTW: Millis Brewery Gravesend Guzzler

A bit of a hefty beer weekend with Dartford Festival on Friday, Whitstable Brewery tirp on Saturday and my usual Sunday frollicks. I will opt for the Oxfordshire Maypole at the Wat Tyler in Dartford, firstly because it was an excellent pint and secondly becase I can't really remember the Festival or Brewery beers with any clarity! An equally hefty week coming up with 4 gigs and my trek to Scotland on Friday. Could be some inetresting selections as we head for the great Scottish World Cup remote pub crawl.

Unfortunately, the rest of the week went downhill beer wise, just poor Landlord and tired Leeds 'Pale'. Therefore, my BOTW is Fernandes 'Sportsman's Stout'.

Mine is going to RCH breweries Pitchfork, I didn't really enjoy it much if I am honest, but did find the grapefruit flavour very intriguing, hence points for surprising me.

Whilst looking at beers in Sainsburys last week a random guy suggested I try the Hambleton Ales Taylors Tipple, have to admit it did seem quite nice - but I was desperate for a beer when I had it so need to try another to decide if it was really worthy of BOTW.

So on balance I will go with the Bristol Beer Factory Sunrise which went down a treat on a hot Friday afternoon.

Sounds like latent 'hophead' tendencies to me. That citrus and spice hit can become addictive. :)

Not really a grapefruit fan, hence the didn't really enjoy it. But it was amazingly like drinking grapefruit juice, very easy to drink. Was a lovely reminder of just how different they can get ales to taste.

Two good London crawls last week, especially Friday evening from Holborn to Leicester Sq. with the weather as it was.

Not many different beers though as most of it was the standard London offerings.

But probably the most enjoyable pint, and patriotic to boot when considering the forthcoming kick about, was the Brodies English Best at the Cross Keys in Covent Garden

... Brodies English Best

You must've missed Edgar Wallace & Castle Gann, two of the better ale choice venues in that area.
Talking of Brodies, I'm considering the William IV for the Algeria game - big screen & all beers £1.99 (even the 7.2% Porter!), could be dangerous.

Strangely, most of the beers enjoyed this week came from the Ilkley and Humpty Dumpty Breweries, despite me being nowhere near West Yorkshire or Norfolk.

Beer of the week is Humpty Dumpty Swallowtail.

Yer, correct. It was almost point to point just deviating around Long Acre. It wasn't my crawl and the idea was to start and fininsh in a SS. And even though the end point was The Chandos, I still couldn't drag them to The Harp.

Too true, not sure I'd make it back through the Lee Valley Reservoirs

On the basis that I may not get to a working PC before the week is out, I will get my BotW nomination in early - Exmoor Stag at the Rutland Ale House in Hammersmith. I only popped in to use the urination station and ended up putting more in than emptying out!
