Just the four this week.

North Riding - Citra Pale.
Gadds - Dr Sunshine.
Great Newsome - Liquorice Lads Stout.*
James & Kirkman - Empress of India.*

Easy winner was the Empress, a 6% IPA, aged in 40 year old whisky casks. A big beer with a lovely layer of complexity from the whisky notes.

Only a small list this week :-

Dark Star Hophead 3.8%
Harvey's Best 4.0%
Nethergate Azzalord 4.1%
Butcombe 42 4.2%
Harvey's Heath Ale (Armada?) 4.5%
Cronx Oreo Cookie Stout 4.6%
Dark Star APA 4.7%
Dark Star Sunburst 4.8%
Peerless Knee Buckler IPA 5.2%
Peerless Full Whack 6.0%

I thought the Hophead and Dark Star APA had much more British hop character than last time I tried them.
The winner is the Peerless Knee Buckler IPA as tried for £2.09 in Liverpool's Lime Kiln.

BOTW Peerless Knee Buckler IPA

Kent,West Sussex, London,Essex:

Kent-Session Pale 3.7% abv. Pretty good considering it being al fresco on a sunny Bank Holiday.
Harvey's-Sussex Best Bitter 4%abv. Workmanlike.
Windsor and Eton- Conqueror 5% abv. Roast dominant, grand stuff.
Bedlam-Phoenix Pale Ale 3.9% abv.Pale,assertive, sappy hops.
Mighty Oak-IPA 3.5% abv.Old school session bitter;nutty,long citrus finish.
Mighty Oak-Gemini 3.7%abv. Fair golden ale.
Mighty Oak-Oscar Wilde Mild 3.7%abv.Bible black, succulent.A winner.
Beer Studio-Warrior Venture 5%abv. A dark, red ale.Not impressed.
Sambrook's-Battersea Rye 4.5%abv.Dark,spicy.OK.Surprisingly, I'd not had a beer from them before.

The Oscar Wilde MILD slightly outscored the Bedlam Phoenix, but I'm often singing its praises, so my BOTW is Phoenix from a new to me brewery over the border in Sussex.

It was a close run thing with Brew York's Maris the Otter also in contention, Kirkstall appear to be firing on all cylinders after some transition problems with the new brewery.

Had Brew York -maris the otter in the Euston Tap but was pretty bland.Find the pubs beers too cold and rarely enjoy my beer in there. The ex cider bars beers seem to be better temperature. Had Kirkstall -Generous George recently and it was superb. Just looked it up and its an ipa with Polish hops which surprised me.
