I'm heading to Newport next Thursday - anywhere essential to visit on the Crewe-Shrewsbury-Hereford-Newport line?

The very obvious classics are Loggerheads (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32230/) , Three Fishes (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32265/) , The Nag's Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/57895/) in Shrewsbury; The Barrels (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/14217/) in Hereford, The Bhurtpore Inn (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61339/) is very well regarded but it's still on my to do list, it's very near Wrenbury station on the Crewe - Shrewsbury leg but has dodgy opening hours by some accounts. There's also a couple of decent pubs in Ludlow between Shrewsbury and Hereford.

Only had time to visit a couple of pubs when I was there, but Abergavenny looked a more promising place than I was expecting.
