Although I had heard good reports over the years, my first visit to the Laurieston Bar (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/74748/) proved the most pleasant of surprises (all in a rather unlikely location on the south bank of the Clyde in Glasgow).

Black Dog, Whitstable. A very fleeting visit early in the month afforded my first experience of an East Kent Micro, and one of the few beers in the running for beer of the year. (Kent Brewery-Session Pale.). Never to be one to name drop, but Stonch was in there only a matter of three days later...

The Fox (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/80927/)

An excellent shop conversion with outstanding ale quality and selection,it was the best of a decent group of pubs in Shipley.

Cow & Cask (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/82572/)

for saving (along with the 'spoons!) what could have been a very mediocre evenings drinking in a very mediocre town.

A clear winner for me is the Albion (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54162/) in Conwy a superb place for locals and visitors alike. The bad news is that I found out about their sister pub the Bridge too late to visit it. The good news is that it gives me an excuse to go back!

Good to see more response for this thread than for last month's.

Hands-down has to be The Jolly Brewmaster (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/12375/) in Cheltenham. Great ale selection, knowledgeable staff, convivial locals, and packed early evening on an April Fool's Friday, which is saying something for an off-the-beaten track local. Top marks, and possibly an early contender for my pub of the year, along with The Bell (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61608/) at Aldworth.

My first visit to The Guide Dog (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/59830/) was certainly worth the effort, great pub.

Prairie Schooner Taphouse (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/82565/) in Urmston of all places.

Almost a micro pub, but it has a lounge area.
