Just had a 3 mile walk from my house to do a Horseshoe that I've not visited before, so that also gets me off the mark in the Quinno name challenge!

Siston Common? 7 revisits now running out of pubs to do unless I do days in Bath.

23 new pubs done yesterday,i did 20 in the Bradford area then did 3 bars in Leeds.
All pubs were new to me and lots had popular names like the Kings Arms or New Inn.

Ime not sure how you work this new Quinno challenge of doing all 250 pubs on the list that you have not been in before.

That's the one. It looks as if I've only done about a third of the pubs in Bristol which is a little embarrassing, must try harder this year I think.

Al, first off just wanted to let you know I've finally corrected the dates on most of your reviews where you supplied a visited date - that means you've got a pretty good record on the site now of pub visits it just isn't very visible yet.

If you'd like to record your visits from yesterday then go to these pages for Bradford (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/town-visits/bradford/west-yorkshire/) and Leeds (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/town-visits/leeds/west-yorkshire/). On those pages you'll need to press the 'Add visit' button next to the a pub you went to, when you click it the button will change to 'When' - click that and it will allow you to put in the date of the visit.

Once you've done that the Quinno challenge page (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/stats/challenge/quinno/2016/) will show an updated total of how many of the names you have been to in 2016.

Thanks for that Dave,

I just had a quick look and did a few, would it be worth editing the reviews to add the date i visited the pub,i did all pubs in Hull and area in 2009 and 2010 but i was new to the site and did not add dates i went in the pubs.

3 new pubs in Sowerby Bridge yesterday.

Apart from the Firehouse, which will be open again in a couple of weeks, Sowerby's pubs got off very lightly
during the Boxing Day floods and all appear to be OK.

I didn't check on The Long Chimney which was very close to the flooding though.

Please feel free to change them if I put any of them there. You guys know the place better then me.

Edinburgh has pubs with double locations in both Edinburgh Central and Old Town.

Sounds like a possible plan to me :p:cheers:

Damn, I wish I'd thought of doing that. Perhaps my OCD isn't strong enough.

It was certainly less pubs, because apart from my total of 22 new ones I probably "only" visited about 20 more.
although there were quite a lot of "revisits" to The Baum.

TBH it all looked far too complicated as I discussed with Al10000 so I'm just doing anything I've not done. But in the interim, will do loads of pubs within a 30 mile radius of home, some pubs will count but I suspect loads won't count. Went in a Royal Oak and Wheatsheaf so def got 2 out of 16 yesterday.

I did all of the pubs you have listed the only reason i did not do Venus is because i was doing the crawl away from the city and wanted to end up at the top end and that bar would have taken me to 24 pubs.
I did do a new pub not on Pubs Galore which crap pub have got their facts wrong yet again,do they go on the ground like i do in visiting any pubs.
This is the pub in question Zazu's Kitchen (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/80737/) they are two separate bars which i went in yesterday, but i decided not to to do Zazus Kitchen as it only had bottled beers, the place seemed friendly enough, the bar the crap pub thinks has change names is called Biblos on the Hill and is a few doors up the hill from Zazus, pretty sure crap pub dont walk round Bristol like i do.
If you want to add Biblos on the Hill feel welcome it is in your home area, the other pub i walked out of was the Annex i could see no pumps on the bar and i did walk up to it,the only options was Guinness extra cold or Carling extra cold, seemed quite nice inside and was very busy,or did i not look properly for the five real ales that crap pub say are on the bar.

I'm not adding Biblos as it used to be Zazu and Zazu was Demitries both are crap and the world has better things to do in life.

Re the Annexe there are about 7 pumps/casks behind the bar you really missed out in there ergo it's in the GBG.

Cheers Dave

Personally, I would say yes for merging Queens/Queen (and in case anyone thinks I'm trying to make my life easier rather than the list more robust, I'd point out I have done both already!).

Whilst we're on the subject...(and I have your attention :D )

Following similarish logic, King William IV is listed on the Challenge but not William IV (eg William IV (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/70895/)) but as they refer clearly to the same person, perhaps they should be merged as well?

As a tinker, you managed to merge the Cricketers and Cricketers Arms (which makes sense). The same is probably required for Foresters/Foresters Arms and County/County Arms, for consistency (there are probably others that don't appear in the 250 currently, eg Butchers/Butchers Arms). It's an odd one - mainly down to keeping the Kings/Queens Arms and Heads separate debate! Without those, Arms would probably be in the suffix exclusion list...? In fact, perhaps that's easier to do whilst keep Queen And King out of the condition?)

And as a neat segue to finish (it's one other thing from a while ago that got missed) can 'cafe' be added to the prefix/suffix exclusion list please?

Many thanks for keeping this list tended-to!

Cheers

...and then there are Forresters as well (two Rs in the middle).

Prince Albert/Albert,

The Albert and Prince Albert in Rochdale were named after different people.

The Albert was named after Albert Royds, a famous local dignitary (there's still a Royds Arms in Rochdale as well)

The brewery kept trying to put up a pub sign with a picture of Prince Albert on it (two separate occasions by the same brewery)
to great local outcry.

As they're both closed it wouldn't affect things anyway, but it's not as simple as just presuming Quinno.

Heh a good point well-made, to be fair.

With King William IV/William IV it's nailed-on, but for the rest there is indeed a small % chance that it might just refer to someone else. So I'll take that advice and amend the above.

This brings my new pubs done for the year up to 138.

Two trips booked for May one down London the other up to Liverpool,i only booked the Liverpool trip because it was a direct and cheap train from Nottingham, not sure what to do when i get there as i dont want to do the pubs most PUG visitors do,may do Bootle or Wallesey.

It all depends on the weather conditions in the Severn Estuary.I was planning to move from Sharpness to Portishead Marina on Monday 13th June, and then do the shorter journey from Portishead Marina to Bristol Harbour the next day ,Tuesday 14th .After that I will need some beers ! My first "Billy No Mates" Friday for some time saw me visiting 11 new pubs in Swinton, Clifton & Moorside.

I will never visit any of those 11 again.

If ever an area needed a really good pub then this is it.

4 Holts beacons in a sea of fizz. :(

Now on 115.

August was surprisingly productive, and the year to date total is now 134 .................... 150 for the year looks manageable.

Heading into the final quarter of the year on 141 new pub visits, pleased with progress although Huddersfield the most likely source of new ticks given that boating is now on very familiar territory.

27 for the year.Doubt if I'll find any more until the New Year. How Christmas and NY fall this time, Saturdays are rather limited from now. There are a few unvisited near me; unvisited over 40 years with good reason.
Anyway, a better tally than last year.

I've finished the year on 260, which, on paper, is just above my usual target of 250 but in reality is much better than I'd hoped for given that I was forced to put pub going on hold for over a month back in May. I'll be aiming for a similar total again in 2017.

505 new pubs done by Al 10000. I liked this crawl, a typical day out:

"This was to be a full pub crawl of all pubs in Brighouse and area, but my plans were disrupted when i looked at the weather forecast for the day, Heavy rain all day.
I decided to stay on the train and do what i could in Hebden Bridge quickly and go back down to Brighouse to pick up the town centre pubs, the plan was to stay as dry as possible with less walking.
It did'nt work i got soaked to the skin.
19 new pubs done."
