Just one for me, the Kelham Island Tavern, although, I prefer the Fat Cat just round the corner.

The Crown & Kettle is nowhere near the best pub in the Northern Quarter, nevermind Greater Manchester.

4 for me. I was in The Steamboat only 2 weeks ago.

4 for me, Riser, Crown&Kettle*, Surrey Oaks, KIT.

*No, I agree I wouldn't have it as top dog in the area, but I have a bit of a soft spot for the place and do like to drop in if up there.

Only the Soaks for me.

Soaks, Riser and Crown and Kettle but not been in the C.a.K since about 1982 so it probably doesn't count.

That list is not meant to be released until the launch of the GBG.

Have to disagree with you there, Andy - just on beer choice (although I do like the Cat as a pub, for historical reasions (http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2012/may/23/dave-wickett)and for its garden/yard, I have to say that the arrangement of/access to the bar leaves a lot to be desired.)

At the KIT (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56068/) there's always Bradfield Farmers Blonde for those who don't know any better, plus Pictish Gold and Barnsley Bitter for those who like a standard ordinary bitter at opposite ends of the spectrum; always a mild; always a stout and/or a porter; and four or five pumps in between with interesting newcomers. And all of these beers are always in top condition.

At the Cat (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43149/), the beer range in terms of style is much more variable and there are fewer pumps in operation. My default beer here (if I didn't fancy any of the guests, or the Kelham Island Brewery experimental brews) was always their own Kelham Island Best, but in recent months they can't even serve that in top condition a lot of the time.

KIT beats Cat any day, for me.

Nice to have the choice though!

Three for me, KIT, Plough (about 30 years ago) and the Crown & Kettle. I might have been in the Stockbridge Tap but too senile to remember.

Personally I'm with Andy on the Kelham Island question but yes it's good to have such a choice on Kelham Island, same with the Northern Quarter not the Crown & Kettle, but I might need another trip over there to check. Looking at the other Yorkshire contenders I'm surprised about KIT.

Thanks OB.

I almost got to visit the White Horse (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/79963) but it was closed when I went there to take a photo. *

I've done the Old Poets Corner (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54919)and the KIT, of course. I was in the Crown & Kettle (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55849) a couple of times in the year or two after it reopened, and don't remember being that impressed - comments from others suggest there are better in the area.

*At least we've got original photos on our site. What?ub have simply "borrowed" a couple from the pub's own website!

What a relief! I'm not the only one that has to plough through a minefield of Memory Management Violations rather than rely on copious written notes.

I've been to four and all reviewed within the last year or so. The two CAMRA discounted micro pubs, Hail To The Ale and One Inn The Wood may never get visited by many as they are rather out on a limb. The One Inn the Wood is one of only three pubs in Petts Wood but the Daylight Inn (which I won't be visiting any time soon) is one of the pubs on that recent list of classic inter war pubs.
The Hail to the Ale is in the leady North West suburbs of Wolverhampton and I got the impression that the locals regarded themselves as living in Staffordshire. The number five bus does end up at Codsall where the station has the famous Holden's pub (don't waste time with the GBG listed club as it's rubbish IMO).
I thought the Rising Sun on the canal at Berkhamsted was ace but it has the cloud of a revisit hanging over it as there is now also a Red Squirrel micro pub / off licence in town which is in the increasingly long queue of pub additions.

As for the KIT I preferred the Fat Cat as it was more comfortable and less manic. If I ever return to the KIT I'll make sure it's early doors.

Two for me the the KIT and the Crown and Kettle but the best Sheffield pub has to be the Gardeners Rest assuming that's the one with the eccentricrally decorated rear garden. cheers

Yeah, that's the one (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43179/). They had a duck make its nest in one of the tubs there this year - hatched seven ducklings. And that was probably the least eccentric thing in the garden...
