It is best to head up to the Old Town, plenty of decent pubs up there plus a couple of Spoons, make sure you go in to Walters a crap name for a pub but lots of real ales on,it is also worth going to the Minerva for the views from the bar alone.

Only had time on my single visit to do a quick spin round the three central 'spoons whilst waiting for a change of trains. Of these, the Admiral of the Humber (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56318/) looked dull but turned out to be quite good, the William Wilberforce (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56321/) very much the opposite and the Three John Scotts (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56320/) being somewhere in between.

The Whalebone was a brewpub when we were there, but I believe they have stopped brewing recently. There are 11 pubs in GBG now, but we have only done the Whalebone and 3 John Scotts from those listed.Nelly's and Walters were the other 2 we went to, but that was in 2010, so things may have changed.
