Off to Cardiff tomorrow - any knowledge of decent outlets in and around (say 15 mins from) the centre? I last went years ago and only did a small number.

The Goat Major is definitely getting a revisit but am pretty open with other suggestions though preferably not Brains-only outlets. Any input appreciated...

I've not been for a little while now. One thing's for sure - you'll be fed up of Brains by the end of the day.

Some good Brains alternatives are Urban Tap House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/80772/) (Tiny Rebel), Zerodegrees (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/65483/) (which I prefer to the Reading branch)and assuming it's opened by now, BrewDog (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/81947/)

In addition, there are loads of 'Spoons. My favourite is Prince Of Wales (JD Wetherspoon) (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55858/), but The Gatekeeper (JD Wetherspoon) (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55856/) is pretty good too.

The Golden Cross (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56668/) has one of the best pub interiors in the whole of Wales and despite having a poor beer selection, is still worth a quick half.

Get your Brains fix in the Goat Major, The Cottage (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/45679/) and/or The Old Arcade (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/45785/)

Depending how late you're planning on staying, you might want to get the St Mary's Street pubs ticked off first, as it'll be carnage later on. Have fun.

Last week visited Cardiff with Mrs Wild Rover and agree with Pubsignmans selection and all of which are not to far apart. Called in The Prince of Wales which is a good Wethy's plus visits to The Old Arcade,Queens Vaults and The Duke of Wellington all were ok with about 6 handpulls but mainly Brain's
BrewDog is now open

Have a good trip

Cheers chaps, they're now all noted though I suspect I'll only be doing BrewDog under duress...!

The Golden Cross is one I definitely want to do, love a classic interior.

Will be doing my reviews later this week. Suffice to say that in Cardiff city centre, the Urban Tap House is head and shoulders above the competition. Goat Major I either caught on an off-day or things are slipping. Ended up in BrewDog and was surprised - a bit of character and friendly staff.

But overall Cardiff is still(!) awful for good beer pubs in the centre.

And, with perfect timing, a Cardiff list from the Guardian's Tony naylor:

I must admit I hadn't heard of half of these!
