Funny you should say that, as I'll probably be heading to the Yorkshire Food & Drink Show, the final part of the Leeds Food Festival, this weekend.

I've got a couple of mates coming from Bedfordshire on Saturday to do my Sheffield pub crawl by bus (not the usual suspects) (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/crawl/viewcrawl.php?crawl=1012). Extraordinarily, the cost of the all day tram and bus ticket (http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/viewticket.aspx?id=1600)has gone down from £4.90 when I devised this crawl just over a year ago: it's now just £4.30.

In the same time, the final pub on the crawl (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43362/) has gone from being not among the usual suspects to being Sheffield pub of the year.

Looks like you're in for an excellent tour Quinno.
Didn't understand the White Horse, extract above, but Wantage looks worth a stop just for S.O.M & Royal Oak.
Is bus from Didcot the only way there by public transport? Are any of the other wantage pubs worth looking at?

Ah, 'White Horse' is the local CAMRA branch name (Vale of White Horse). Wantage-wise, I've only been to those 2 plus the Bear (not-so-good but that was a good while back). It's a quaint little town and worth a crawl round on a sunny day. As far as I'm aware, it's Didcot and (perhaps) Oxford/Swindon bus-wise.

I've been in all the Wantage town centre pubs (Oct2010) and it's great if you like Greene King's version of Morland so apart from the SOM and RO I wouldn't bother, it is better than Brackley however. I would like to see how the SOM has come on though.

A crawl round Birmingham and a visit to a Hop Farm on the agenda this weekend, then off to Chertsey so we can have a few days at Egham USC beer festival, then a day trip down to Olympia for GBBF.

A week near Nottingham beckons too so we can buy advance tickets for Nottingham festival, so may as well have a run round some of the drinking establishments while there. Think the next one after that is Minehead, closely followed by a break at Barnard Castle en route to York for a few days for the beer fest there.

I dont think you will find that many pubs in Prestatyn,i went there with the good wife while having a holiday in Rhyl,we only found five places to drink in and only two were proper pubs, the Cross Foxes and Railway.
We even asked another older couple who were wandering round the town if there were any more pubs about, the bloke said "we have been looking for a pub for the last half hour with no luck".

Conway has got a good gaggle of pubs we did about 9 pubs there and Bangor also had a good few pubs, dont bother with Colwyn Bay either just as bad as Prestatyn hardly any pubs there.

Although later in the year than normal, the annual booze cruise week starts a week on Friday fully sanctioned by the WAGS.

Meandering through the canals of Staffordshire,Cheshire,Shropshire and North Wales while drifting in and out of the local pubs ,the usual crew would be delighted if any PuGers were able to meet up en route. The lunchtime stops are always tricky to guarentee but almost certainly we will be in the following places in the evening.

Friday 6th September Burslem
Saturday 7th Crewe
Sunday 8th Chester
Monday 9th Wrenbury/Aston
Tuesday 10th Ellesmere (Salop)
Wednesday 11th Maesbury Marsh
Thursday 12th Llangollen
Friday 13th Welshampton

Reply to the thread or PM me if you are around on these days and fancy a few beers.

Done a bit of research on likely pubs, but any suggestions most welcome.

Got an alert from Eurostar as well, and looking at a day trip to Brussels myself (albeit a month earlier than you). I don't know the city in a beer-wise way too well but, if you're seeking beer out there, you definitely need a copy of CAMRA's Good Beer Guide to Belgium. While it's highly opinionated, there's plenty of good stuff, not least a pretty complete list of breweries and their beers, as well pub & cafe listings for just about every town you're likely to visit. A good investment (and you've got plenty of time to get yours ordered - when I needed mine, I had to dash around West London in search of a copy at very late notice).

We use the Good Beer Guide to Belgium a lot, but the 6th edition out now is 2 - 3 years old, and the next edition is due out. It is still excellent though. Another we take is the 80 beers around Brussels. Very good value.

Hi Gill

When you're in Leek, you have to visit the Roebuck Hotel (Titanic tap) Wilkes Head and Cock Inn (Joules beers). Also, a very important must-do, is to take Ray to the fab bakery on the corner of Derby Street, Lawton's Famous Pies, 70 Derby Street, on the same side as the Roebuck. The homemade pies are out of this world - I recommend meat and potato! You can also sit in and have your pie, chips and gravy. Also, they make everything there from scratch. Enjoy.

Planning a trip to the Black Country Museum this weekend so should finally get to try out the Bottle & Glass (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/67258/).

Also may have an evening out in Birmingham in which case I'm planning to try to make it to The Prince of Wales (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55023/) to claim my free pint from Punch.

I am aiming to call in the Prince tomorrow dinner time - a free beer is a free beer after all !!

Hope you enjoy the museum. check out the Workers Institute - It used to stand round the corner from my house. It was the royal mail sorting office when I was a kid. You will like the Bottle and Glass. My old man used to drink in it in its original location.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to doing the museum tomorrow. Will probably try out one or two pubs nearby afterwards.

Might make it to the Prince on Sunday but I have a feeling their 144 pints allocation may be gone by then!

Burton-on-Trent next week, we've been invited to the CAMRA Champion Beer Of Britain lunch at the Museum Of Brewing.

A couple of beers pre lunch, then four courses matched with the CBOB winners. Then awards & presentations with more beer. Should be hell.

I'm sure we'll manage quite a few pubs the night before and hopefully still be capable of a few more after the lunch finishes at 7!!!!!.

I need a bit of advice for my next trip which will be to Nottingham on the 19th. I'm arriving by train at around 12:00 - 12:30 and hope to get out to Horse & Jockey (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/69848/) in Stapleford before making my way back to the City Ground in time for a 15:00 kick-off. I've got no idea if this is possible or if I'd end up with an unsatisfyingly short visit to the pub before having to head back - hopefully Al or someone else with a bit of local knowledge can let me know if they think this is feasible, as Stapleford looks like a bit of a trek from the city centre.

I'll be following this up with a weekend in Canterbury for a mate's stag do.

Looks a tough ask, with buses I4 & 24 taking 28m & 24min to/from Canal St. (www.transportdirect.info is good for this stuff)
I wondered whether the tram would get you close enough, but more likely you'd be forking out for a cab for this one PSM, 5/6 miles maybe not too bad if you can share? I'm up there next Sat and most likely get out to H&J, especially as my local representation failed to get advance beerfest tkts, which have sold out, so probably crawl only, which isn't a hardship in a place like Nottingham! I’ll try to report back re Stapleford travel.

If you thought H&J was too risky, & if you haven't been here, I would highly recommend the Crown and the Victoria in Beeston, also the Hop Pole is getting decent press although I can't think I've been. Beeston is just 6mins on train from Nottingham stn, or the London train arriving 12:26 stops there on the way through.

Having a few days in Leek at the moment, and have found a couple of excellent pubs new to us here, the Roebuck and Cock Inn. Will get a trip to Buxton too I expect.

We have advance tickets for Nottingham fest for Thursday and Friday, but decided to pass on Saturday and go round some pubs as the new Lincoln Green pub near the Organ Grinder should be open.

I did the three Beeston pubs you mentioned when I was up there last year (plus another one called 'The Bar'). The Crown and Victoria in particular were excellent and I was tempted to revisit, but I always enjoy trying somewhere new where possible. I'll also be doing four or five West Bridgeford pubs after the match.
Unfortunately I won't have time for the Falcon Inn (Lincoln Green Brewery) or the new craft beer bar 'The Ned Ludd' which opened this week.

Hi Pubsignman,

Sorry about delay in getting back to you,i have been unwell was taken to hospital on Wednesday and then had my hernia op yesterday so i feel pretty rough at the mo.

You will need the catch the I4 from broadmarsh bus station, this is almost opposite the Fellows,Morton and Clayton pub, these buses run every 10 minutes on the hour then every 10 minutes after, the bus should take about 23 minutes to the Horse and Jockey, when you pass the Nags Head and Plough on your right the stop for the Horse and Jockey is the next one, just walk down hill.

When travelling back get the bus from outside the Chequers, this can bee seen from the Horse and Jockey get the I4 again, dont be tempted to get on any other buses going to Nottingham, they will take longer, stay on the bus to broadmarsh and get any bus going to West Bridegford, these are any Radcliffe line bus, buses to Cotgrave,Bingham and Ruddington,it only takes about 5 minutes to the stop just before Trent Bridge.

You will need to get a Zig Zag ticket which costs £5.00

If you neen any other help please ask.

Yes just ask on the bus for the Zig Zag ticket they are a big seller on TB buses, you should get to Stapleford quite quick at that time of the day, when you pass Sandicliffe car dealership and the housing looks more grotty, you are quite close to your stop.

Yes. Although the zig zag will get you out to Stapleford (which I think is just outside the range of the more flexible 'kangaroo') you can only use it on Trent Barton buses. £5pp (or £4.50 with your Camra card) OR, if in a group, incredibly just £9 for up to five people!

I4 got us back to Canning Circus in less than 15mins, I think it only stopped once! Still a way from there to the ground tho...
Horse & Jockey was good for beers but not exceptional as a pub. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have it in West Norwood, but some of the exceptionally strong competition must be wondering how it got local poty.
I particularly liked what they call the 'beer matrix' - a graphical view with light-to-dark along the horizontal and low-to-high-abv along the vertical, and pumpclips of what's on pinned in the appropriate co-ordinate.

Hiya tm. Got home fine this year, I'm glad to say. Hope you got some Dobber down your neck.
2 November, you say.....? It's a fine pub, by the way. There's a shop at the brewery, too, although the walk between pub & brewery is a bit of a nuisance.
I think Mark Tranter (and his new brewery) are somewhere in or around Firle (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/areas/firle/east-sussex/), east of Lewes. The Snowdrop (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/11017/) are promising an event to launch the beers, to make up for the no-show last weekend. Have to see if Burning Sky gets on to the Partridge bar (mind you, I find it easier to get to & from Brighton or Lewes much of the time).

The Pelican and Fountain are definites, I wasn't too impressed by the Dick Whittington but may have caught it on a bad day. The Old Crown over the road is a Sam Smiths' Victorian makeover. Their other pub is the Robert Raikes a Tudorbethan restoration. The Pelican is behind the Cathedral and so is handy after making your devotions to Edward II and checking out the amazingly tranquil crypt. The New Inn at the Cross is also a don't miss even though not in the GBG. The Waterway Museum is good as is the Regimental museum but the only pub I found open round there was the mediocre Tall Ships, although I didn't try Foster's on the Docks which looked OK. The Whitesmiths was OK but didn't open lunchtimes and as for the Baker St and Nelson watch your back if you risk a visit. The Gloucester Brewery is also at the back of the docks near the Waterways Museum, but wasn't selling anything on-site. Further on, a long walk away is the fourth GBG pub The Linden Tree which I didn't really think was worth the walk. You could try the Cross Keys and see if it's better or worse than how the Captain, Thuck Phat and I found it. Eastgate St and Westgate St are mainly full of the usual 18-30 bars with one word names and dodgy spelling, the Union was full of drunken Welshmen and not too bad. Come to think of it Gloucester isn't too good for pubs.

If there are any local PuG members who are going to be around the city centre on that day, here's your chance to do a bit of boating.I will be navigating through Camp Hill Top Lock (Bordesley) around 11am ,descending the 6 locks there before ascending the 6 Ashted Locks.Stopping for lunchtime refreshments in the Sack of Potatoes (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37842/) around 1pm,before tackling the Farmers Bridge 13 in the afternoon. Will moor up opposite The Flapper (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54987/) before getting smartened up then heading down to the real ale emporia ,which I assume are still The Post Office Vaults (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56393/) and The Wellington (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37946/),but always glad to receive advice on any new winners on the real ale front in the City Centre.

If you're going to the Wellington and PO Vaults, you could stop off in the Pure Bar and Kitchen, which is a new venture from the Purity Brewery, just off Victoria Square. I had a look yesterday and whilst it's a bit bland inside, the beer was in great shape. In fact, I'd go so far as to say my pint of Mad Goose was the best kept pint I've had this year.

Pure Bar is new so may be in the 160+ pubs awaiting approval which includes a Holland and Barrett's in Lincoln, Ladbrokes and Nationwide in London. If going to the Wellington you need to be in there before 11.30/11.45 as they shut early as I found out last weekend after trying to get served in there nearing midnight.

RAR seems to conclude my thoughts on http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/newpubs/26981/.

Can't believe RAR has had to add the Harewood End either as my ex used to work there about 20 years ago

I also got a tip off that The Craven Arms (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37562/) behind The Mailbox is worth a visit,so the crew are going to have to do some walking !

Yes, it's excellent. Eleven ales on yesterday including some impressive heavy hitting IPA's. Well worth doing - it's around a 15 minute walk from the city centre.

The usual pre-big-match panic has started - where to watch on Sunday. Blythe Hill Tavern is always excellent but a request has been made for wider ale range (we generally go for Hophead and Harveys in there).
Possibly St Albans, with Mermaid to start then Blacksmiths favourite for match ahead of the Goat.
Anyone have any London/burbs beer/Sky suggestions, other than Aldwych George? Also thought of Kings Head/Dickens combo at Borough, whilst aware the Marathon is nearby...

This Tuesday I will be attempting my first major assault on the capital (albeit a mere 3 and a half hours) This is more of a snapping expedition rather than a pub crawl and was wondering if there was any must see pubs as I will certainly be having a few along my way
The area will either be around Kings Cross and walking down in the direction of Russell Square or more likely to the other side of Euston station and to the left of Tottenham Court Road.
I have found in the major cities when snapping pubs that up 20% of time is taken up waiting to cross roads and the reason why I have not quite finalised the route.

Your help would be much appreciated

Cornwall summer.
Just arrived in Cornwall and going to the launch of the Falmouth Pub Guide today in the Packet McSpoons. Heard 2 pubs in Penryn having a beer fest this weekend and never been to either so will have a look in them on the way back to the caravan. Number 20 and Thirsty Scholar.

St Ives beer festival coming up too and will be chasing pub fests. Some new pubs have appeared in the Good Beer Guide in the area, so may get some decent crawls in. May find some good pubs, but beer variety will be poor I expect. Hoping to get some good walks in though with a welcome pub at the end to meet Ray in.

The London chaps will be more use but as I travel via Kings Cross here's a few we have used,

firstly I wouldn't bother going to Euston and the Bree Louise although we thought the Euston Flyer was OK if pricy but didn't have time for the Parcel Yard another recommended Fullers pub.

Nearer Kings Cross / St Pancras the King Charles I is recommended for beer and atmos. Over the other side of the Euston Road are the Skinner's Arms and Mabel's Tavern the first for the interior the second for decent Shep's beer. If you're heading deeper into town the Lamb in Lamb's Conduit St is a don't miss pub but not as good beer wise as it was I suspect. The Betjeman Arms in St Pancras station probably ought to be included but I haven't been in yet.

A short list but I tend to avoid the smoke as much as possible.

That would be my advice. If you're going to a Fuller's or "Craft" pub be prepared to take out a second mortgage. People say that the Euston Tap is good but I believe it's the size of a broom cupboard.

Oldboots has already given some decent suggestions, the area you have chosen is not blessed with classic pubs IMHO.If you are looking for a decent pint ,I often pop into The Euston Tap (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/71412/) where the cask ale is not priced outrageously, the keg often is.Interesting building, small interior as Aqualung says and you could always visit the Cider Tap (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/75611/) opposite in an identical building. The Doric Arch (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54207/)at Euston Station is a Fullers with a decent selection of guests ales, not cheap although the 15% CAMRA discount may help.It has a lot of railway memorabilia. The other interesting Fullers pub is the Parcel Yard (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/76784/) at Kings Cross, well worth a look. Finally The Queens Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/53707/) nearby is worth a squint, only a few cask ales but often from interesting London micros and more unusual kegs.

Enjoy your day

If you're planning on the area west of Tottenham Court Road and east of Great Portland St (if you're looking at the map, that's left; if you're looking at London from the front of Euston Station, it's right :D), then traffic won't be much of a problem once you're across the Euston Road. The Tap will be fine as long as you can be in & out before 4:00 (5:00 latest), before the post-work / pre-Virgin cheap ticket blackout period really kicks in.

I can't say I know the area in detail (for pubs at least), but I note that there's a Draft House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/53678/) in that area which might turn up something interesting. I would suggest quality probably diminishes the nearer you get to Oxford St! The Pubs Galore map suggests a very high concentration of pubs round here (more so than Kings Cross / Russell Square), which will assist your photo efforts.

If you are heading between Euston & Kings Cross, the Somers Town Coffee House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/22842/) seems to be well-regarded.

Enjoy your day out.

I will be either going to Yeadon and Guisley in December or Batley and Birstal,i may do a crawl in late December while i am off work, this would probably be to Dewsbury.

In January i will be going to London at some point and also do Heckmondwike and Liversage,

In February i will do Brighouse and hopefully another London crawl.

Once the daylight gets longer in late March i will do all pubs in Sowerby Bridge.

There seems to be loads of unreviewed pubs in West Yorkshire,i hope to do over 120 unreviewed pubs there by April.

Our Easter treat was managing to get Ray to Sheffield for the day yesterday. Train journey was fine and we met a friend from Coventry in the Tap for a couple. He caught the tram as he could walk round the pubs, but we came unstuck trying to get the 53 bus to the Gardeners Rest. We thought it would be the easy option with a stop outside the pub, but we got the bus stop in the interchange and just missed the bus. Waited 15 minutes, then when on the bus found it was going the wrong way. Got off and the right bus 20 minutes later, and eventually to the Gardeners where we did meet up with our friend ok. Rest of the day worked as we caught a bus to Riverside, and managed to walk to Fat Cat, KIT and Shakespeare. Getting a bus to interchange from there was a nightmare as all drivers were saying 79 or 38. and while we enquired at a 70 to find he wasn't going back, a 38 sailed past! Another bus got us to Cathedral stop where we caught a tram to the station and back home ok.
Ray is trying to get out, but it is hard work when you need public transport round a city that you used to walk round. We had a great day with some good beers and that is what counts. Not sure when our next outing will be as advance planning a little difficult now.

Arrived at ~16:00, thinking it might be a good time for a lull, nope, queue ~ 30-40pax, on a 1 out - 1 in basis, so moved on.
Rose and Crown (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/24517/) had some contenders for babotw, moved on to Alexandra (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/24499/), which I thought had a better range these days but had no offering for our bbb pal. No realistic choice in what used to be the Plough, so we wandered back past Craft, where the queue had gone, but it looked uncomfortably rammed, so gave up on that, reduced to a last pint at Clapham North (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/24474/), same options as in Rex's review, though surprisingly thorough match coverage at the rear.
I presume this will be my bloody awful crawl of the year (bacoty) - I'll be mightily upset if it can go downhill from here (even if the Kings Head and Royal Oak at Borough provided a decent, if uninspired, start).

Gill, seems your tours are increasingly transport-reliant; planning & pub prioritisation to the fore! Good luck from all of us, I'm sure...

As a geneally annual visitor to the Rec when my team are in town I can concur that it is usually only the pubs close to the ground (mainly those near the Parade Gardens) that you have to worry about, and obviously The Boater on Argyle Street, which is the unofficial Bath RFC Club house due to its proximity and the steps down to the River which make it the nearest pub to the ground entrance.
And you only have to worry for the couple of hours before kick off as the ground only has a small capacity (by modern premiership standards ) and its quite a family orientated club which means people tend to aim for the restaurants in townafter the game instead large groups of blokes continuing to tank it up..

Well, the Clangers have returned to TV!

I retired from pub reviewing not from pubs - mainly due to work issues and I started to write my own local history blog (with several pub articles). I also follow PG on Twitter and would like to make a 'gathering' one day. I was up in Liverpool a few weeks back, taking some 'yam-yam' to Real Ale Ray land!

Still never made the Nags, must do Reading again sometime soon. Been up and down to Cheshire a few times recently, my dad's not too good, but have decided to combine my next visit with a couple of days in my old home city of Manchester, not really been around the pubs there for many many years now. Having a bit of difficulty getting a doable short-list together!

ha ha don't blame you!!

The new Reading-Caversham footbridge is open so it's simpler and quicker to get to the Fox & Hounds in Cav now - they're doing really well on the beer front at present, well-worth factoring in next time.

We are finding it easier to do beer festivals rather than pub crawls at the moment. Ray managed to get round half a dozen in Sheffield on Friday and that was great, but we have to check distances for him. We are taking the caravan out next weekend to Chertsey and can bus to Egham for the beer festival there. Had hoped to do Derby with you all, but pubs a bit scattered there for Ray to cope with for an intensive crawl. Will make Dudley festival later this month. Have fun on Friday.

Looking forward to a trip to Brentford next year?

It is definately on my to do list for next season. A ground I have never been to with a pub on each corner ( I did hear that 1 has shut though ? ).

I have done over 50 watching the Villa but I see relegation as an oppurtunity to tick off a few more !

My only worry is that Sky will screw around with the fixtures / kick off times and make it a pain in the arse.

Had a good day out in Brum in the end. The Sack of Potatoes was my first port of call and it sounds like it hasn't changed too much since your review. The beer range was maybe a little more mainstream - Landlord, Black Sheep Bitter, Salopian Shropshire Gold, Woods Pot O'Gold and Kelham Island Pale Rider with Oakham JHB about to come on. Beer was in good nick, the staff were friendly, the stained glass looked great in the sun and there was a 10% CAMRA discount. I don't think they'll have you walking the plank after a visit here.

Also tried Gosta Green, just over the road, but the beer was terrible. The new-ish The Botanist (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/82908/) was very smart and had four interesting ales on - nice place to take the missus, but perhaps less so a bunch of drunken sailors. Really impressed with The Victoria (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/37928/) and I also tried the new The Stable (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/83583/) which served up a terrible pint of Oliver's Island but had over 80 different ciders, should you fancy a change. It goes without saying that the Craven Arms remains the best pub in the city.

Have a great time, wherever you end up.

Have you been to Berkhamsted? There's a reasonable Spoons, the famous Rising Sun and a newish Red Squirrel outlet / micropub. Unlike Hemel & Leighton Buzzard the town is fairly close to the station. and it's not very far from Watford so shouldn't cost a fortune for a Day Return. Alternatively there are several Spoons dotted around Metroland both on the Overground to Euston and the Metropolitan line. Berkhamsted is almost certainly best but go for a session rather than to tick every pub.

From March 23rd until June 1st there were several manned structures (some staircase locks, tidal river access locks, tunnels, boat lifts) which were closed to "leisure cruisers" and only open to "liveaboards" with prior booking and some reason for the journey.I should be OK as there on none on my autumn schedule.

Took a little trip (https://thepubexplorer.wordpress.com/2021/05/20/up-that-london/) around town yesterday.

That looks like a quality trip

Unusual radio silence with no postings visible yesterday, I'll add this as something of a test (that nothing is amiss)...
No train deals but travelling regardless tomorrow to meet some East Midlands boys for a spin around Beeston's finest, Crown, Vic, Hop Pole, Star will certainly be included, and some jokers or double-jokers played along the way. Weather: 80-90% rain/showers for 100% of the day. Prediction: 100% chance of becoming ver ver drunk...

Must have been close to bumping into you today.I've left the boat in Beeston and then got the 11.31 back to my car in Loughborough .Too early to stop for a pint and not advisable as I had to drive down a rain sodden M1. Hope you have a great day,Nottingham last night was terrific .

Very pleasant, with a few rough edges.

A fine day with time, as usual, running away from us, just 5 venues with Totally Tapped missing out, so Crown (2.5pts, for me), Star (2), Hop Pole (1), Chilwell 'Garage' (1), Victoria (2), along with my pint before the off at the Barrel Vault this left me a half short of double figures. Maybe it's a good thing that the lack of bar access precludes easy walk-up 'in-betweenies' as I found, on waking today, that I must have had plenty as it was, thank you.

Chilwell Garage was an oddball, and not listed here, or as the Ruin Bar, but the guys wanted it on-map as they did off-sales supporting local breweries during lock-downs, so deserved support, large site that one could easily imagine being rave-worthy in different times, though not for me, obvs!

The Crown is a delight, beer list attached, something us saarf london dwellers can only dream of - hear the grumbled mutterings of 'you don't know you're born' - but why were we sat outside in the covered but windy added structure, instead of appreciating the style and warmth of the pub itself? There's no teaching these woodsmen types...

That's the longest beer list I've seen since reopening - my regular haunts, such as Sheffield Tap, Blake Hotel, Fat Cat are just stocking four or five cask ales. The Cutlers in Rotherham is the tap for Chantry Brewery, but instead of the usual full range has also only had five on. The Crow Inn on the other hand had four hand pulls but masses of keg beers on the go.

Looks like you had a good day out, but you don't mention whether you missed your train, so we'll assume you did.

A couple of journeys on the cards just to get back into the groove of travelling. Firstly Shrewsbury then the rather excellent Chorley.

New stuff or tried and tested?
