Back in the mid 1970s Fleckney WMC I managed to procure a pint of watneys starlight bitter. A budget version of watneys red barrel. It set me back 13p. A considerable sum to me back then. It was horrible. Being in the company of elder mentors I pretended to enjoy it & partook in several more. For a 15 year old, with hindsight this probably wasn't the best decision I had ever made. Returned to Furnivals pop until my taste buds matured. Any other first pint experiences from former curious youth?

I was a 17 year old student nurse in Sunderland and wanted to go into the bar by the shows at Seaburn, and one of my patients said just walk through the door, point to a pump and say half please, and I had my first beer - Vaux Samson.

My first payed for (by me) pint was a pint of Inde Coope Mild in 1975 at the age of 15 which I think was 14p and the cheapest option available, two of those and I happily weaved my way home,I'd hate to think how many it would take to make me weave nowadays let alone what the cost would be.

I started on my dads home brew when i was around 13 which he knew about, after that me and a couple of mates were made members of a works club we were 15 and the stewards new this so we were aloud 3 pints in the week and no more than 6 at weekends, the beer was Mansfield keg bitter at 12p a pint.

The first two proper pubs i did when i was 16 and just started work were the Petersham Hotel in Long Eaton drinking Home bitter 20p a pint and the Man of Iron in Stapleford drinking Kimberley bittter at 18p a pint.

I started my pub crawling and recording what pubs i visited in 1982 at the grand old age of 20.

I pasted this from the other thread, all my figures are still correct

It was cider and it was the Brookmeadow in Shard End, Birmingham, 1982.

In another thread I said the Cambridge pub. Though not technically true because as Kid we had a family wedding reception in the Hop Poles at enfield when I was about 13 one of my brothers dared me to drink a pint of Double Diamond me uncle Les had left on the table . I did and got a right thick ear it was worth it though
