Does PUG have the total number of pubs in London. I have read its 7000 but wonder where they get the facts from.No doubt the vatman knows but I often think this number is too high.

I have a vague recollection from the mid 1970s of it being around 5,000. I doubt if it's that now let alone 7.000.

I thought it was about 5,500 but 7000 seems to be the figure being bandied about around the internet.

Does that include all the closed pubs posted by Tris c .Back to what I posted is 7000 the amount of licenced premises rather than pubs.Or is PUG lagging behind the true number.

They are listed open pubs... closed pubs not included. I think that them numbers are reasonably accurate. Especially as most have been photographed.

I would guess that the 7,000 figure includes licensed restaurants. I reckon the PUG figure is probably about right, although I wouldn't mind betting there are a few closed ones that haven't been noticed yet.

And once you've done that then feel free to also define 'London'

The reason I asked this question on another site for beer tickers rather than pubs one of the guys has been in 4000 of the 5500 pubs (his figures) in London over the last 40 years. According to PUG he might have a lot less to visit than he thinks. Although a lot of the pubs he has ticked will have closed so the 4000 may be an over-estimate of current pubs. Confusing this pub business.?

Ha ha ha .... Cheeky bugger.....

Anyway 5500 or 7000 personally I don't care, as in either case I still have several thousands to catch up on, even without dusting my passport off and going south of the river...
