This is a very active and worthwhile section on the Forum , action if necessary is usually taken very swiftly. My question is this, once dealt with should the thread not be deleted as the initial report is meaningless to the new observer, there are not normally any replies by admin to the threads , which I totally understand with the time it would take up but it leaves everyone apart from admin, the reportee and possibly anyone who managed to see it before swift justice has been dealt, in the dark. so currently we have several pages of posts that have become redundant and generally meaningless taking up space.
Not a real problem on my part, just a thought.

I see your point, but if the name of the pub is there then perhaps it could serve as a warning, without the details

On a similar subject, I can understand reports of drug taking and illegal activity being swiftly removed, but why report objective post about awful food, not child friendly or poor service? Surely it is all relevant to the pub in question, as I have said before, not every one goes into a pub for real ale, and this site is about pubs, and most have different business models & clientèle

I for one like to see reviews about poor service and indifferent food, even by one time poster, gives me somewhere to avoid if in the area

I suspect this one will run and run :D

However I believe last time it was discussed we sort of decided that reviews that were purely winges and added nothing to our knowledge of the pub should be deleted. Few of the winges are objective usually someone has had a bad food experience or been told to control their brats / move a push chair out the way.

But surely that is the point? May be a one time whinge, but this is a review of what happened to them and others should be aware?

They may not be listing the buildings features, car park or beers, but are reporting & reviewing their experience in a pub, much as many do in reporting no real ale, pump clips "coming soon", overpowering juke box noise, lack of Sky sports, etc etc, the list can go on & on

We are only getting one side of the story, why should I believe what they say?

A one off, subjective, winge tells me nothing except the writer was disappointed, I neither know nor care whither it was really due to poor food or service or, as the Northern Landlady's blog points out, just an idiot with bad manners, poor reading skills, unrealistic expectations or an inflated sense of their own importance. I'll make my own mind up thanks.

I don't take most people's opinions of the beer quality at face value either, it's another subjective judgement. I can sort out fact from opinion so I can look at a description and decide it may or may not be a pub I might enjoy, I want to know what it's like inside, what beer is available, if it has a noisy juke box and is it heavy metal or techno, etc, etc,

I don't need some aggrieved prat seeking revenge by telling me she didn't like the way the steak was cooked or being told her brats were a nuisance especially the ones that end their rant with "AVOID".

I must admit those in depth critiques of the catering at chain pubs where nobody really cooks anything - the food comes off a Brake Bros lorry to be microwaved by some minimum wage kids - causes a wry grin; though there's little more point in writing it up than there is reviewing a McDonald's or KFC.

I'm more than happy to whinge about a boring choice of beer. Is it really that different to someone complaining about the food? Your post also implies that only women complain about food, but maybe that's a Yorkshire thing!!!

Agree 100%. If the food rants are allowed to stay, it becomes harder to tell what the pub is really like. Have a look at these "reviews" (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2617025-d3523746-Reviews-Blue_Bell_Inn-Carlton_in_Lindrick_Nottinghamshire_England.html)o n Trip Advisor. This pub (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/31273/) has 64 reviews there, with responses from the landlord to a lot of them. Some are good, some are bad, but not one of them tells us what it's like in the bloody pub!

At least you're telling me what the beer choice is.

Sadly it is usually women who feel the need to come here and bore us with their bleating, that even includes the hardy Nora Batty types we are lucky enough to have in Yorkshire; you should meet my mother in law, never happier than when complaining - she used to terrify steel workers as well

There is another pub review site we all know that specialises in mindless ranting and sniping at the trade. Let's not try to compete for their niche.

The replies so far are not really about what I started the thread for , they are however much more entertaining and probably a more worthy subject,
My point of view on the current theme is, get rid of the one post food whingers, and agree with Old Boots the percentage seems to lean heavily toward the female of the species although by no means exclusively, if the review states bad beer ,poor service , food was crap, but they had a good jukebox and the wallpaper was nice, well fair enough, but a one time poster giving all negatives could well be a BITE style grudge holder,or they could be right, but would soon be sussed if a few subsequent reviews all led down the same track.

I think that you’ve hit the nail on the head there. It is almost impossible to find a public house that is 100% sh*t. There are very few public houses that have absolutely no redeeming features.

In the end it is factual vs subjective.
Factual reviews are far more helpful, but a bit of personal opinion gives the review a bit of depth, especially if it comes from someone who has posted on other pubs. We wouldn’t want a pub site that just lists the facilities.

There is a member who reviews quite a few pubs that I know and in the whole I disagree with his views. We obviously have different tastes in pubs so if planning a crawl and I’m wondering whether to include the pub out of town that is a trek and I find that he has given it a glowing review I will scratch it off the list.

So I suppose I’m saying DUMP THE RANTERS!!!

Did you eat there? Or just a drinks? Will you be posting a review or picture?

Just asking if you intend to bring it all up to date, not pushing

Trip Advisor, only two reviewers (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g209964-d5316759-Reviews-The_Angel_at_Heytesbury-Warminster_Wiltshire_England.html), both rate it highly

Picture was taken but was dark and taken through an app I need to select save or discard and I didn't select save so gone when I got home and went to upload it.

It was just drinks and you could tell that these were old reviews and substantial changes are likely to have occurred in the duration as I'd be surprised in its current guise that it would be still in business now based on the previous reviews.

Based on the reviews if I was eating there I would bring it up to date. My review would be good based with a welcoming bar which hasn't seen the food side extend and take over the bar. Although my visit on a Friday afternoon in the new year period and may not be reflective of the norm.
