A modest week.

Mc Mullens -- Country Bitter
Tillingbourne -- Hop Troll
Dark Star -- Art of Darkness

BOTW went to Tillingbourne Hop Troll, which despite the name ,is not some unbalanced citrus monster, but a very quaffable hoppy pale ale in The George,Croydon..Ratebeer and GBG describe it as an APA .It would easily have gone through the three pint test if I didn't have to shoot off for a train to a match where the KO was put back anyway:moremad:

Next week,a much delayed voyage up the Ashby Canal .Loads of new pubs for me,quite a lot of Marston's action by the look of it.

Not a bad week with TWO non Spoons visited!!

Oakleaf Cream Of the Crop 4.2%
Rooster's All Star 4.3%
Butcombe Haka 4.5%
Strathaven Claverhouse 4.5%
Freeminer YYZ 4.5%
Mordue Oatmeal Stout 4.5%
White Horse Cheval Blanc 4.7%
Sonnet Brown Ale 4.7%
Shefford 37 South 4.8%
Sunny Republic Dorset Cross 5.0%
Innis & Gunn Toasted Oak IPA 5.6%
Windsor & Eton Irish Conqueror 5.8%
Adnams / Pretty Things Jack D'Or 6.0%
Tap East Smokestack Porter 6.5%
Tap East Scarred Belgian 7.4%
Siren Ryesing Tide 7.4%

These were mostly the remains of the Spoons Fest with three untried ones bringing my total to 43 of the 50. A brief visit to the Tap East 2nd Birthday Fest produced a clear winner the Windsor & Eton Irish Conqueror. This is a stronger version of their Conqueror Black IPA that I assume is aged in an Irish Whiskey barrel. It was served on gravity at Tap East for £3.85. The cooling saddles were doing their job as it was a decent temperature and being one of the first pints from the barrel it had plenty of condition.

BOTW Windsor & Eton Irish Conqueror

Modest for me also

Wild Weather - Stormbringer
Darkstar - Greenhopped IPA
Wychwood - The Dogs Bollocks
Milton - Sparta
Elgoods - Apocalypse Cow

The Greenhopped was the best and no more left now but disqualified on the three strikes and out rule, having been BOTW thrice already.
So its between The Dogs Bollocks and Apocalypse Cow,
BOTW goes to The Dogs Bollocks by a short nose, or is that snout.

A fairly quiet week after last Sunday's 12-pub York crawl (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/crawl/viewcrawl.php?crawl=1152). Some interesting beers nevertheless.

Ashover Coffin lane Stout and Fox Brewery's Grizzly Bear, a wheat beer, both in the Chesterfield Alehouse (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/81024/).

A very dry and more-ish Plum Porter from Blakemere Brewery at the Kelham Island Tavern (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56068/).

Brew Co. Oat Stout at the Mallard (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/31306/) on Worksop station.

Dukeries Baronet at the Anchor (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/31269/), Worksop.

Grafton Dark Lady - an aniseed-flavoured porter - and Black Abbots, plus Holly Green from Lincoln Green Brewery of Nottingham, all at the Grafton (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58380/) in Worksop.

Grafton Black Abbots was a drop-dead gorgeous drink: smooth and malty, with a delicious roast barley after-taste. Easily my beer of the week and the Grafton will probably be my pub of the month, too.

Well as it was the Egham beer fest this week I had lots of new breweries and the standard was very high.
the best were
hopstuff -pale ale
360 degrees-west coast pale
burning sky -plateau
downlands -fulking green hop

21 different beers this week and these were the top 2

weird beard-little things that kill(I think this has been my botw before) so my botw is

beavertown -black betty ( an absolute beauty of a black ipa.)

No pub this week,I've been finishing off the beer I brought back from Yorkshire in bottle:Yorkshire Dales- Hawes Golden IPA.Some misnomer here, as my bottles were dark brown and very hoppy and Hop Studio XS,a tasty and well made premium type ale.Not RAIB, unfortunately, but I like the cut of their jib.

Some judicious bottled beer buying has led to a rather good week:

Downton Chimera IPA
Fullers London Porter, ESB
Vibrant Forest Metropolis, Pale Ale
Marble Lagonda IPA, Bennett's Progress
St Feuillien & Green Flash Belgian Coast IPA
Titanic Chocolate and Vanilla Stout
Oakham Bishops Farewell
Grafton Lady Ruby
Archers WGV
Vale Special
Nobby's Plum Porter

The Nobby's Plum Porter was very good as was the Lagonda IPA but BOTW was Marble Bennett's Progress. This is billed as a gin beer and was extraordinary with so much going on that it's beyond both my palate and literary powers to describe. I'll leave it at bottle conditioned, 7% and with gin and marmalade both apparent. Excellent as with all Marble beers. Accept no substitute.

Unusually for me, only 2 pubs visited this week, but still a decent selection of beer.

BOTW is Bootleg Gangster's Moll tried at The Baum of course.

Brewed at the Horse & Jockey in Chorlton this is a easy drinking, light session beer at 3.8% and passed the 3 pint test with ease.
