I too fell asleep on the choo choo - only i missed my stop, as there was no FOUR MINUTE WARNING. Anyhow, a great day. Hats off to Quinno for all his hard work throughout the day, especially for drinking pop in order to remain sober (until someone pointed out that's what he usually does anyway;))

I must have been p1ssed, I woke up thinking the buses were pink!
A fine tour Quinno, and exceptional organisation in arranging the fabulous fly-over.
Fox & Hounds will certainly be added to my Reading list on next visit. I was just telling her it was a good pub, games room with pool & darts to the rear, & Lennon & McCartney played there (as Nerk twins) in 1960
She said "What? Pool, or darts...?" My sides are still splitting, hahaha...

Interesting list john,I didn't make any notes so have spent the morning trying to remember what beers I had where, cant for the life of me remember the name of the beer in the Fox and Hounds other than it began with a C, and no recollection at all what I had in my last stop in the Oakford Social Club. But based on what I do Know my top three pubs for beer were,
1 Nags Head- Sherfield Village Black and Hoppy
2 Lyndhurst - Binghams Vanilla Stout
3 embarrassingly for me, The Monks Retreat - Butcombe Great Grey Owl

Top three pubs ( and not a JDW in sight) were,
1 Nags Head
2 Retreat
3 Fox and Hounds

A really good day out, I too fell asleep, not on the train but on a bench on the platform at Basingstoke waiting for my delayed connection,I awoke to find the train waiting there and only just made it, finally got home sometime after midnight.

I, too, must congratulate Quinno on directing the unruly mob [1] around town with great forbearance. You've got some good pubs there, in particular Fox and Hounds & Hopleaf. A very enjoyable day out, with added fly-past. I didn't fall asleep on the train home, but it was a sweltering ride (on the first train, anyway).

[1] may just have been me, on reflection.

Cheers all, pleased it went well and we managed to pretty much keep to timetable which was a minor miracle in itself. After seeing off Moby and Mr Fastard, OB and I managed to stagger off to the Nags for a quick nightcap...

A special mention to Soup, who showed a touching concern about my perceived lack of beer consumption :D

The double flypast really was something.

Cracking day drinking , well done Quinno , although i think the heat took as much of a toll as the beer .
I managed to stay awake on the train(just) but thanks to a delay at Leamington missed the last bus home and not a taxi in sight .

Cheers Quinno, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. My memory of events after Zerodegrees is a little hazy, but I managed to find my way home OK.

Hope you didn't have to sleep under a hedge.

Thanks for the photo of the flypast. There was a little debate yesterday about whether the fighter escort was Spitfires or Hurricanes - I reckon your photo shows it was one of each.

No did`nt need to sleep under a hedge , just an hour walk home !!

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight when 3 aircraft is always the Lancaster flanked by a Hurricane and Spitfire , not sure which Spitfire it was yesterday (BBMF have 5/6 still flying ) but i think it was the Mk X1X the Last , it was not the TES as that has clipped wings and it looked painted in green so not the Recon Spit which is all silver .
For those that do not know the Spitfire has the narrower body and larger more pointed wings ...................... i have a collection of anoraks !!!!!

I didn't think much of it at first but it did grow on me as I got further down the pint.

Have to say Mrs A and I enjoyed Reading very much - a big thanks goes to Quinno for his organisation of the day, plus the 5 minute warnings to get us out and onto the next pub (and getting everyone on and off the buses!!). The pubs were all excellent with the Nag's Head being a particular favourite. The beer in Zerodegrees had loads of flavour and was refreshing on a hot day.

Photos to follow!!

He even had the wherewithal to suss out the whereabouts of the Caversham Wetherspoons avoidance splinter group ,Myself, Sheffield Hatter and Soup Dragon and give us a 5 minute warning in the Prince of Wales (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/1708/) up the road, well done Quinno yet again.

Made a return mini trip to Reading/Caversham today ,taking in the Baron Cadogan (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56820/) whilst waiting for the excellent Fox and Hounds (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61613/)to open at 12.00
then stopped off to break up the longish walk to the Nags Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/1691/) with a brief visit to the Crown on The Bridge (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/61612/), and finishing off in the Alehouse (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/1661/).
A fantastic range of beers in the Nags as usual and I tried a good number of them, but the two best beers of the day were Surrey Hills Gilt Complex drunk in the Fox and Hounds, and Binghams Coffee Stout enjoyed in the Alehouse.

I had never heard of Bingham's before I stumbled into their stout in the Acton Spoons. They seem to do several variations on their base 5% stout but the one I REALLY want to try is the Chilli one! I wonder what sort of meal for which the food bores would recommend it as an accompaniment.

As a fairly regular beer at the Nags, I can recommend it with one of their heavier pies (eg steak and kidney)

Not yet had a chilli beer that works, for me anyway.

Wentworth Chocolate Chilli - so hot it knackered the line in the Nags and the Dr Hexters next on had to be sold as a 'chilli special'!

Two pints of it invites the same lower intestine heebie-jeebies as a fiery madras down the local curry house...
