Not a lot of good beers this week .Some major disapointments from some good brewers but
Liverpool Craft -American Red Ale at the Red Lion isleworth fest was good.

Not much variety this week but all in good condition,
Darkstar Hophead
Darkstar American Pale Ale
Darkstar Genesis
Portobello Portobello Pale
Milk Street The Usual

It was going to be the Portobello Pale a new beer to me but Darkstar have done it again with another new beer

BOTW Darkstar Genesis marketed as a mild, at 4.7% with strong chocolate flavours, a winner in my book.

A big week for me,boating around Burton and then relief pints in Croydon.

Scottish Borders -Foxy Blonde
Leatherbritches -Bespoke
Marston's -Pedigree
Jennings - Red Rascal
Worthington -Red Shield
Worthington -Spring Shield
Worthington -White Shield
Ringwood -Boondoggle
Jennings -Cumberland
Lancaster -Blonde
Dark Star -American Pale Ale
Dark Star -Hophead
Dark Star -Carafa Jade
Leeds -Vienna (I liked this well hopped dark beer, too much bite for a mild though)
Woods -Pot o' Gold

BOTW goes to Worthington White Shield from the National Brewery Centre,Burton. In the days of my youth when there was little real ale available, after a session on Charrington IPA:sick: in my local,I would treat myself to a bottle of White Shield to finish off. This cask version at The Brewery Tap was different from the bottled ale I remembered but still a very fine strong IPA style, there was a lot going on .Shame it is rarely seen anywhere else but at the museum.Pushing hard for BOTY so far.

Very quiet week on the beer front (although wine's another story), with just six tried. This week's runners:

Roosters - Fort Smith.
Revolutions - Uprising.
Dark Star - Hophead.
Hand Drawn Monkey - Pale Ale.
Roosters - True Grit.
Great Newsome - Marvellously Poetic Porter.

Almost impossible to choose between the Fort Smith and the Hophead. However, I'll go for the latter as it's still quite rare in the north and even rarer to catch it with that new barrel freshness.

Just two: Oakham Bishops Farewell and BOTW Salopian Blackwater Helix. Pale, hoppy and perfect for warmer weather. Three pints? No problem. Another winner from Salopian.

When you do "catch it with that new barrel freshness" as you put it, all its components present,Bitterness, zesty citrus flavours and good conditioning, its almost unbeatable for a beer of its strength.

A fine beer although Marble (Pint, Draft and W90 all at 3.9%), Oakham (Inferno 4%) and Blue Monkey (BG Sips 4%) may put themselves forward, amongst others. This (http://forums.pubsgalore.co.uk/showthread.php?5677-Weak-Beer-Strong-Flavour) might be worth a re-visit?

BOTW is going to be Kelham Island Gentleman Death tried in THe Baum.

A pitch black 6% Porter, very smooth and dangerous.

This vote was amplified when I tried the beer again in Oddest Chorlton last week. Still excellent.

Sorry, Moby. Somehow managed to completely overlook this. Have to say I agree with you.
