Sometimes you get caught up trying to tick off pubs in far flung places and forget what's on your doorstep.I'm being greedy and picking two pubs Kenilworth (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/48989/) and Berts Bar (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/63452/)

My pub of the month goes to The Marquis Of Granby (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/32440/) this is a really nice victorian pub that is in the heart of the Penkhull area of Stoke on Trent,i could have happily stayed in this pub for a good while.

The Red Lion Inn (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/60909/) One of those pubs that you just don't want to leave, great service and food - ales were also outstanding. Only wish it was my local

The Bell & Jorrocks in Frittenden, a proper village local.

On a brief stop-off in Berwick on my way to Edinburgh, sought out the Barrels Ale House (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/30396/) and very glad I did - absolutely the right place to get some decent beer in a friendly atmosphere on a cold winter's day.

My visit to the Cock Tavern,Mare Street was brief and I would like to go back for a longer session to sample more of their beers so maybe a future POTM.For January I will nominate The Farmers Bar at the Kings Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/54859/) in Aylesbury as the winner;historic ,quirky, welcoming, and the Chiltern Brewery Tap, a very good combination.

My best pub this month was the brewery tap of the Grafton Brewery in Worksop, The Grafton Hotel (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/58380/), where I spent an excellent if somewhat liquified Saturday afternoon.

Another Aylesbury nomination, The Hop Pole Inn (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56257/). Owned by Vale Brewery and home to The Aylesbury Brewhouse, you're guaranteed some interesting ales here and ukelele night if you're lucky.

I'm going to vote for The Maltings (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/43595/) in York as my POTM for January.

The beer has always been great, but it was always rammed when we visited and just wasn't comfortable.

It got to the point where Ms CAMRA just wouldn't go in.

Now they've built an extension is feels a lot better.

We went in twice on our last visit to York, so that's worked then. :p
