Hello everyone!

I have decided to visit small Staffordshire town Cannock (roughly 5 miles north of Walsall) for mini pub crawl. Pubs I will visit are..

The Linford Arms (JDW) http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/56969/... will be my 99th JDW.
The Royal Oak http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/34346/
The Roebuck Inn http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/34345/
Pied Piper http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/34342/
Stones http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/34348/

IF I finish pub crawl earlier than I anticipated then I'll go to Walsall to tick off 100th JDW, The Imperial http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/55162/ for dinner and pint.

Then I'll catch bus to Sutton Coldfield to watch Sutton Coldfield Town Vs Stourport. Before the game, I'll be visting The Duke Inn http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/68486/ for two good reasons.

1) I haven't been there for good 5 to 6 years
2) Nearest pub to Sutton Coldfield's football ground.

Despite living in Staffordshire, I never shopped or even drink in Cannock and althrough I have been driving through Cannock millions of times but never stopped there. Also Cannock is the largest settlement in Staffordshire I never visited. Should be interesting experience tomorrow..

Hope you enjoy the Duke Inn Hoppy, I was there just over a year ago and it was a real good down to earth pub. Another good pub in Sutton Coldfield that I remember is The Station which, funnily enough, is by the station.

Have a good day

Thanks Millay, I shall enjoy Dukes Inn tomorrow night as long I am not very drunk!

The Station by.. well, station naturally, is rather poor and soulless. I guess I only ever visited there in lunchtime and I bet it will be packed in night-time.

I know what you mean, I went there on my own around lunchtime and it was very quiet. But when returning in the evening with a load of mates it was full and had a great atmosphere. It was a bit concerning when half a dozen police turned up with sniffer dogs but after a quick tour of the property the dogs seemed more interested in begging for crisps of the punters than looking for anything dodgy.

Hi,

Just a thought, if you are doing Cannock and on the train as it looks like you maybe - possibly swap Stones for the Mill Farm , which is opposite the railway station. Ok, its a toby inn, but it is yet to be reviewed. And Stones isn't exactly special.

I have a soft spot for the Linford, a lovely pub, try sitting upstairs by the window if its quiet, or the study.

Again if on the train, a stop off in Bloxwich may also be an idea?

And Cannock town centre isn't half bad as a place. Ok nothing spectacular, but it is nice.

Enjoy

Danny

Hi Danny!

Thanks for pointing out Mill Farm, I'll swap it for Stones (although it is bit out of way, I'll do it for you)

I rarely use train around West Midlands and all done on buses. Bloxwich doesnt have any JDW so I chose Walsall for 2 simple reasons.. 1) They have JDW which I need to tick off 2) Bus direct to Sutton Coldfield.

Many thanks again.

Hoppy

P.S I wonder where do you live

So can we have the various bids in now on how many days/weeks/months before the Imperial mysteriously burns down?

Or is it the case Hoppyspoons pubs are immune to the Hoppy curse?

I wouldn't give you good odds, lots of fires occur in Walsall, mate!

Seriously don't go to Mill Farm for just a drink.. I mean seriously!

I had great time in The Duke last night and 4 real ales on bar.

:D

I don't think I would like to see JDW burnt down!

Both pubs I have visited in past was burnt down 2 weeks after I visited. Both were free house and very well known.

Actually JDW is NOT immune to my so called "curse" because Tamworth's own JDW The Bole Bridge's water pipes burst and leaked through the celling while I was drinking... Closed for one week!

:D

That is some gift you have there, you should try and get yourself hired by pubco's to visit their competitors pubs.

Hoppy, sorry about the Mill Farm if it was that bad! But at least we know now!

I used to live in Hednesford (as well as Coton Green!) and have cause to go back there on a regular basis, but now live in Birmingham, in the real ale desert of Chelmsley Wood.

:D Hey no worries pal.. Mill Farm is really suitable if you are eating but certainly not drinking alone. The room was packed with OAPs and children running around. Oh yeah you did mentioned it is Toby Carvery chain.. well actually it is Crown Carvery. I waited for my turn at the bar for around 15 mins! I had pint of Greene King's IPA which was quite acceptable.

Hang on.. you used to live in Coton Green?!?!:eek::eek: I wonder if you have been to The Coton Arms or Tame'o'Shanter

I used to go and watch the Wolves games in the Coton Arms! Used to live just at the back. Ok pub I guess. I actually preferred to walk down to the Tame Otter, I liked those pubs (English Inns?) though again not known for their beer choice.

Thanks for forgiving me!

You are welcome!

Tame Otter is Vintage Inn and just had refurb recently. In fact I popped in for swift Everad's Tiger yesterday and It looked more chic than before. Still shame about beer choices..
