A small but high quality selection this week all sampled at The Merchants (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/57333/) beer festival:
Blue Monkey Ape Ale
Brentwood Clockwork Orange
Crouch Vale Yakima Gold
Oakham Untouchable IPA, Bishops Farewell
Marble Ginger

All of these were very good although the Ginger was a touch hazy. A tough decision given how good the Untouchable IPA was but at 9% I didn't manage the obligatory 3 pints. I did though manage 3 of Blue Monkey's Ape Ale without it touching the sides so that is BOTW.

After visiting the Norwich Beer Fest and taking in a good few pubs around Norwich this week, my beer tasting list and cider tasting list is quite substantial.
BOTW Grain Brewery Porter 5% and my cider of the week, or should I say COTW Apple Cottage Filthy Tramp Juice 6.7%.

Bucking Fastard

It's turned out to be a very quiet week. Something I ate at a bonfire party last night has given me a dicky tummy and put the kibosh on my usual Sunday afternoon session. :( So, just the three to choose from:

Ilkley - Dinner Ale.
Acorn - Tangerine Dream.
Kirkstall - Black Band Porter.

Easy winner was the BBP.

Quite a few this week :-

Welton's Horsham Old 4.5%
ELB Nightwatchman 4.5%
St Peter's Fruit Beer 4.7%
Titanic Golden Porter 4.7%
Bath Hefwiezen Hare 4.7%
Marston's Old Baily 4.8%
Wadworth's Blunderbluss 5.0%
Brodie's Simcoe Pale 5.0%
Feral Australian IPA 5.5%
Svytury's Baltijos Red Ale 5.5%
Brouwerij't Ij Ijbok 6.0%
Steenbrugge Blonde 6.0%
Steenbrugge Dubbel Bruin 6.0%
Brodie's Kentish Town Brown IPA 6.2%
Lee's Moonraker 6.5%
Brodie's Big Mofo Stout 10.5%

There are several candidates from these but the winner is East London Brewery Nightwatchman at the Walnut Tree in Leytonstone, which came as a really pleasnt surprise. It's a dark bitter with plenty of hop flavour.

Off topic, but is there anyone who has tried the Horsham Old and can remember the defunct King and Barnes Old? It tasted identical to me and is exactly the same strength.

I've only had about 10 of the JDW festival beers so far and the only one that has stood out was Harviestoun Wild Hop Gold.

It's not going to win though.

BOTW is Pictish Beaca (yes Oggy I managed to get some Pictish) tried in The Angel in Manchester.

A pub that is definitely back to where it was when it was The Beerhouse.

The Bulls Head (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/52652/) have recently been putting on some beers from the two new Croydon breweries (Cronx and Clarence & Fredericks). The C&F Blonde was a tasty session ale but Cronx Fallout - an Autumn ale - gets the nod for BOTW.
