I've a few to choose from this week :-

Skinner's Cornish Knockers 4.5%
Robinson's Unicirn Bitter 4.3%
Robinson's Green Bullet Pale Ale 4.4%
Robinson's Double Hop 5.0%
Blindman's Icarus 4.5%
Brodie's Old Street Pale 5.0%
Brodie's Kentish Town Brown IPA 6.2%
Brodie's Big Mofo Stout 10.5% (on Keykeg)

The 4 contenders are the Knocker, Icarus, Old Street and Big Mofo. As I believe that this is my first experience of the Blindman brewery and as it was served in really superb condition at the Coronet in Holloway Road for a mere £1.99, it's my beer of the week. My only problem with it is defining the style of beer. It could easily be called a dark bitter or a brown ale and one beer site describes it as a red beer.
I would go for a brown ale myself.

BOTW Blindman's Icarus.

Another quiet-ish week, but fortunately some of those tasted were bang on form.Tried this week:

Old Mill - Blonde Bombshell.
Roosters - Yankee.
Bowman - Eldorado.
Golcar - Dark MILD.
Raw - JR Best Bitter.
Acorn - Old Moor Porter.
Ironbridge - IPA.
Rat Brewery - Red Rat.
Fernandes - Ghost of Luis.
Fernandes - Double Six.

Not a cigarette paper between the MILD, Porter and Red Rat, but I'll give it to the latter - a wonderfully aromatic red ale, dry hopped with Simcoe.

Some very fine ale in Macclesfield,Kidsgrove and Stone with BOTW going to Townhouse Audley Gold, with a fragrant nose, easy quaff and a solid bitter finish served in peak condition in The Blue Bell,Kidsgrove.

Pushing south later in the week down the T&M and Coventry Canals so still in good ale country for now.

Had some very good pints on Friday between Cask, Knott Bar, Port St Beer House, Smithfield Hotel and the Gaslamp but the only one I can remember is the Marble - Pint I had in the Smithfield. I seem to recall we drank it dry too. :notworthy:

Yorkshire and adjacent counties:
Jennings -Crag Rat.An OK golden ale.
Black Sheep-Progress. Hold the front page-BLack Sheep have discovered hops after 20 years.Nutty amber with long rasping hop finish.
Yorkshire Dales-Muker Silver. An old favourite inspite of myself. Very pale, very hoppy, very austere.
Theakston -Old Peculier.Another old favourite.Black as sin and as rewarding.
Wensleydale-Semer Water Summer aleGood to see this selling well at the Coverbridge.Pale, citrus, background sweetness.
Wall's-The Dark Side.An exceptionally good Milk Stout-thought it was a porter-from a new brewery for me, again at the Coverbridge. Black, again, with a lasting tight white head.Hedgerow fruits with a dry finish. Wonderful.
Theakston-Best Bitter. A welcome blast from the past. Clover in the palate.
My [U]BOTW-Wall's-The Dark Side

Plenty tried this week for a change and most were very good quality:
Oakham Scarlet Macaw, Bishops Farewell
Wentworth Bumble Beer
Milestone Olde English Ale
Titanic White Star, Plum Porter
Pheonix West Coast IPA
Red Willow Shameless IPA
George Wright Pipe Dream
Buxton Kinder Stout
Allgates Tutti i Cancelli Tipo
Bass
Acorn Millenium IPA
Weetwood Old Dog
Townhouse Audley Gold

As Mr Fastard notes, the Audley Gold was very good as were the Shameless IPA, Kinder Stout and both Oakham beers. The Weetwood Old Dog was old dog. BOTW was Titanic Plum Porter - magnificent!

I spent Saturday afternoon wandering round some of the new 'craft' beer pubs that have sprung up in the Islington/Hoxton area. It wasn't a cheap afternoon, but I did at least get to sample some beers from the new wave of London breweries - breweries that have been conspicuosly absent from a lot of the capital's more established ale houses.

Two really stood out from the rest - London Brewing Co Old Fountain New Tricks (a beer brewed to comemerate the Old Fountain's recent Saturday opening) and East London Brewery Quadrant Oatmeal Stout - a lovely, silky smooth stout with bags of flavour and a worthy BOTW.

 ROBCamra in agreeing with Spinko shocker!!! :D

Can't disagree with the man, despite several decent contenders this week.

BOTW is Marble Pint tried quite a few times in The Baum in the just over 3 hours that it managed to stay on the bar.
