Right now, I am drinking Elgoods Black Dog.

Accompanied by a JDW steak & kidney pudding. Took me a while to recover from a hangover this morning and have popped out for a late lunch.

An interesting and worthy part of the Oakham stable, Green Devil IPA coming in at a powerful 6%. If you like hoppy beers this is a must have if you see it. Slightly hazy in appearance but that may be becsuse it is frkm the cask at a festival. Could be my botw unless the Buntingford Imperial Chocolate Wheat is very very good.

It may be weak, gassy, not real, and "badge brewed" in about it's 13th different location (currently Wolverhampton), but it is still a classic of it's style. It still has that flavour that takes me back to my youth, -- years ago!

PS- I won't be binge drinking it and putting the pubs out of business, this is just a little extra;):notworthy:

Just enjoyed a couple of little bottles of Chapel Down Winery's 'Curious IPA'. Unusually for a non real ale in the bottle, this wasn't spoilt by excessive carbonation. Well hopped, but not overly so. Chapel Down isn't far from here, but I think the beer is brewed at Hepworths of Horsham. In any event, someone at Chapel Down knows their hops. They also produce an award winning lager using methods associated with champagne production:I haven't tried this, as it would be wasted on me.

Had a pint on draught in The Castle (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/39963/) earlier in the day, but it was served so cold (and with a sparkler, which I can't imagine that Ringwood's brewer would have intended) it would be difficult to rate very highly.

Bolten's is not one of the well-know German breweries, the beer has a distinctive flavour and is quite similar in character to, for example, Dark Star.

Proper German beer is undoubtedly the second or third best in the World, but you can't beat the real thing.

T/M- I think you live in that London:there's a new micropub in Welling called the Door Hinge that seems to stock them, also many of the East Kent micropubs. The Man of Kent , Rochester and the Flower Pot, Maidstone are good sources. Nearer to me is the Gun and Spitroast, Horsmonden. Near nowhere is the wonderful Bowl at Hastingleigh. Old Dairy beers are fairly frequently found in the free trade and as guests in the low weald. I think they get into 'Spoons, though I wouldn't know about that. Good luck!

Since 5 o’clock this afternoon I’ve been drinking a new Fuller’s brew called Griffin’s Despair. It’s made from hopeful hops that have been had their hearts cut out before being nailed to Craven Cottage by a pig’s foot for a week of sweating. They are then taken to a town twinned with Disney land for some pep before a trip back home for some firming up. Then they are mashed with the heat of a damp squib so that an unforgettable sour taste is reminiscent for years to come. Oh joy of joys!!!

A bottle of Acorn Old Moor Porter, whilst preparing Fish Plaki, a Greek dish of baked fish, in a white wine, tomato, garlic, parsley and lemon sauce. Delicious on both counts!

Grafton Mardi Gras, the most insipid flavourless beer I've had in ages. It has no taste at all apart from a slight sweetness that the barmaid described as apple. I don't get it myself, in fact the only thing I am getting is a thought of getting a different pint. Definitely doesn't live up to it's flamboyant pump clip.

A brand new beer and a brand new brewery for me. Something called DCUK from the Dancing Duck Brewery . Just 4.3% but very hoppy in a Summer Lightning sort of way. It may even be good enough for me to miss the next train out of Euston.

I often have a couple of bottles when cooking. Tonight it's Saltaire Blonde whilst preparing a prawn curry. Just the job on a hot sticky evening.

According to RateBeer it's brewed by Cain's, another brewery I used to like a lot but fear it may have lost the plot.

The list is probably not as alarming as it looks. Hop Extract is a shortcut and possibly wheat. The Calcium Sulphate and Calcium Chloride are almost certainly burtonisation of the water, something most brewers do unless thay are located in Burton.
Caramel is commonly used mainly to change the colour. It only really becomes an issue if used in excess.
Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone would be finings as probably would be Carrageenan which is the only one I'm not too sure about.

Co-op bottled beers used to be supplied by Freeminer and were OK, The last time I tried one was in January.

Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone is used as finings as the traditional Isinglass isn't suitable for Vegans. Carrageenan is Irish Moss, added during the boil to promote clarity.
